Obituary of Brian Caldwell

Brian A. Caldwell, 56, of Glastonbury, husband of Rebecca (Gilbert) Caldwell, died Monday February 21, 2011 at home. Born April 8, 1954 in Hartford he was the son of the late William J., Jr. and Barbara (Chaffee) Caldwell. Brian graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1972 and from Boston University in 1977. He was a Senior Writer for Woodshop News magazine. Besides his wife he is survived by his brother Gary Caldwell and his wife Janet of Medford, MA., 3 nephews Courtney Caldwell of Medford, MA., Tyler Gilbert and his wife Bria of Chester, Matthew Gilbert of NY, NY, and a niece Jodie Hoke and her husband Andy of Colorado. Brian had the good fortune of visiting almost every state in this huge nation and was in awe of and expressed wonder in the sights he saw in his travels. At home, he was proud to serve on the Milestone Commons Homes Board and valued his neighbors. A very dear friend remarked, "I came to know Brian as a hard worker -- a talented writer, a straight-shooter, and always looking out for the little guys, the extraordinary people, and the beautiful places that he so loved to write about. Brian was gentle, kind, and generous." Lest we forget, there's now an angel to root for the Red Sox. A memorial service will be Saturday Feb. 26 at 10am in Trinity Episcopal Church, Main St., Portland. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Friday Feb. 25 from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund , Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA. 02445-7226, or to The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut, 55 Church St, 3rd Floor New Haven, CT 06510 or The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, 4370 Tujunga Ave, Suite 330, Studio City, CA 91604.
