Obituary of Ernest Pettit

Ernest C. Pettit, 91, of Rocky Hill husband of the late Katherine (Nestrunk) Pettit, died Saturday April 22, 2011 at Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness. Born January 13, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Thomas and Jennie (Giere) Pettit he had lived in Glastonbury for 20 years and Portland moving to Rocky Hill 3 years ago. Prior to his retirement he was an Auditor of Defense Contracts for the federal government, working mainly at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He graduated from Pace University with an accounting degree. He joined the National Guard at the age of 16 and served with them from 1936 to 1939 and joined the army and served during World War 2 from 1941 to 1945. He was an avid New York Yankee fan, an aspiring musician and was active in several veterans organizations and had started a VFW Post in Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lucy and Paul Silvergleid of South Glastonbury and several caring nieces and nephews and loving friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday April 26 at 11am in St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd., South Glastonbury. Burial will follow in Neipsic Cemetery, Glastonbury.
