Obituary of William Kaelin

William G. Kaelin, age 82, of Quechee, VT, passed away on August 28, 2011. Bill, the son of the late William C. and Kathryn (Graf) Kaelin of East Rockaway, NY, is survived by his children and their spouses, William, Jr. and Carolyn Kaelin of Boston, MA, Michael and Carol Kaelin of Wilton, CT, Thomas and Linda Kaelin of Woodbury, CT, Margaret and Glen Holland of Hingham, MA, and Robert and Linda Kaelin of Glastonbury, CT; his sister, Ann Moran of Sound Beach, NY; fifteen wonderful grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws, all of whom he loved very much. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur and Robert Kaelin, and his former wife, Nancy Kaelin, the mother of his five children. Bill was an international tax lawyer and an avid saltwater fisherman. He graduated from Duke University and the Duke University School of Law, and began his legal career at Kramer, Marx, Greenlee & Backus in New York City in 1954. He later served as counsel to Healy & Baillie LLP in New York, and as General Counsel to the New York office of Gill & Duffus, a commodities trading firm based in the UK, before practicing law full time on his own. Bill also earned an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Church, Main Street, Glastonbury, CT. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, on Thursday, September 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Kaelin Laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445, with a notation that the donation is in memory of William G.
