Obituary of Dominic J. Cavanna

Dominic Cavanna, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 3, 2017. Dominic was born in 1927 to John and Mary (Negri) Cavanna. He was married to Sarah Durkin Cavanna for 50 years before her passing in 2004. He was a lifelong resident of South Glastonbury and communicant of Saint Augustine Church. Dominic was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He served in the “Baby Brigade”, leaving school at 17. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He received his diploma in a special ceremony in 2001. In 1956, Dominic and his best friend, Anthony Pagliughi, became partners in Glastonbury Oil and Service. Dominic’s son John and son-in-law Richard continue to run the business. He was a lifetime member of both the Elks Club and the Matson Hill Community Club. For many years he was a collector at Saint Augustine Church. Dominic leaves his loving family; daughters Sally Cavanna, Annamarie and husband Richard Monge, son John Cavanna and his fiancé Janice DiStefano. His much adored grandchildren; Carrie and Brian Feltman, Richard and Tara Monge, Christina Cavanna and Nicholas Cavanna. He was blessed to be able to spend time with his 5 great-grandchildren; Naomi and Maxine Feltman, Teagan Monge and Antwane and Oliver Walker. He is also survived by his sisters; Frances Baribault and Mary Shiebler and brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Theresa, Gerald, James and Sandra and Martha Cavanna. Besides his wife Sarah, he was predeceased by his sisters Amelia Wezowicz, Jennie Valluzzi and Teresa Priskwaldo and brother Frank Cavanna. He is survived by a large family of loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Hartford Health Care at Home, especially Eve Organke and Dawn McDonald, for the exceptional care they gave Dad. A mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate his life on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. in Saint Augustine Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Saint Augustine Cemetery. Family and friends are ask to go directly to the church.
