Obituary of David J. Yellen

David J. Yellen, 60, of Mystic, husband of Diana D. Hutchinson, died Monday February 27, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. David and Diana were happily married on February 17, 2017. Born December 21, 1956 in Rockville, CT, son of John R. Yellen of Manchester and the late Jean (MacBeth) Yellen, he had lived many years in Windsor Locks, moving to Mystic 4 years ago. David was Director of Special Education in the Lisbon Public Schools. He previously made a difference at Manchester Public Schools, CREC Polaris and Natchaug Hospital. David was a member of New England Association of Schools and Colleges and volunteered many years with the Special Olympics. He was a proud Alum of the University of Connecticut and avid fan of the Huskies, Patriots and Red Sox. His personality shined and was exemplified by his persistence to always donate to a charity when present. He had the unique ability to touch the lives of many and always “Make a Difference.” Besides his wife and father he is survived by a son Andrew M. Yellen of West Hartford and his longtime girlfriend Caitlin Erickson of Quincy, MA, a brother Christopher Yellen and his wife Karen of Concord, NH, a sister Mary Deane and her husband Robert of Vernon, his former wife Sheila Yellen of Windsor Locks, his step children Roxanna C. Hutchinson and her son Braylen Wayne Perkins and Trevor Joseph Hutchinson all of Mystic and his life time best friend David “Bo” Emery of East Granby and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Peter Yellen. His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, especially his nurse Michelle, for the wonderful and compassionate care David received. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Saturday March 4 from 10am until 12 noon. A service with sharing of stories will follow.
