Obituary of Milton R. Jackson, Jr.

Milton Ridgway “Jack” Jackson, Jr, 88, passed away Thursday, 27 April at his home in South Glastonbury. Jack was born on January 18, 1929 in Lawrence, Mass to Milton R. Jackson, Sr and Louise Puchtler Jackson. He began his working life at the age of 16 as a bobbin boy in the woolen mills of Lawrence but left a year later to join the U.S. Navy. Always extremely proud of his naval service Jack served as a SeaBee and as a diver  aboard USS EVERGLADES AD-24 in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets.   Jack met his beloved wife, Carol, during this time.  After the Navy, Jack  moved his family to Connecticut where he worked in the aircraft industry and as a Coast Guard Reservist training firefighters.  Finally, he owned and operated Neet Cleaners in Glastonbury for nearly 30 years making many good and lasting friends among his suppliers and clientele.  He also made lifelong friends as an active booster of the Glastonbury High School football program in the 1960’s. Jack was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them on Plum Island, Mass, one of his favorite places.  He also enjoyed many creative pursuits such as carving song and shore birds which Carol then painted. Jack leaves behind to honor his memory his wife of 68 years, Carol (Mauk)Jackson, his son; Kevin Jackson, daughters; Jody Lees and husband David, and Kerry Patches and husband Eric, his grandchildren; Jennifer Walsh and partner Scott Trudel, Harrison Lees and partner Leah Cooper, Nathan Jackson, Rachel Larkin and husband Nathan, Jonathan Jackson, his great-grandson; Jackson Walsh, his sister; Dorothy Schulz, brother; Donald Jackson and wife Carol as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Arthur Schulz, his sister-in-law Phyllis Jackson and his daughter-in-law, Dannielle Jackson. A service in celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 13 at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements will be handled by Mulryan Funeral Home.
