Funeral Mass
Obituary of Sandy Cassanelli
Sandy (Santos) Cassanelli, 49, of Glastonbury, CT passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 30, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Craig S. Cassanelli and mother to Samantha and Amanda.
Born in Waterbury, CT, Sandy was the daughter of Alberto and Natercia (Monteiro) Santos of Naugatuck. She was a faithful member of SS. Isidore and Maria Parish. She is also survived by her brother Mario Santos, his wife Sharon, nephews Aiden and Mitchell (of Virginia), and niece Madeleine. She is also survived by many cousins, aunts, and uncles that she loved dearly.
She was the co-owner and CEO of Greeno Supply in West Springfield, MA, a role she managed with grace and dedication to until just a month before her passing. Sandy oversaw all accounting, finance, and HR responsibilities, earning numerous accolades for her exceptional work, including the prestigious 40 Under 40, Difference Makers, and Wonder Woman Awards.
Sandy will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, cousin, and friend. Her radiant smile could light up any room like the sunshine, and she left a lasting impact on everyone she met. She was endlessly selfless, always prioritizing the needs of others before her own.
Despite working full-time, Sandy was deeply committed to her community. She taught CCD, served on the board of the Glastonbury Education Foundation, and passionately advocated for metastatic breast cancer awareness and research. Even as she bravely faced her own battle, she never sought pity. Instead, she turned her struggles into purpose, supporting other cancer patients and their families as they navigated their challenges
In 2018, Sandy and her husband, Craig, founded Breast Friends Fund, ensuring that every dollar raised directly supported research and clinical trials under her doctor's guidance, Dr. Eric Winer of Yale Cancer Center. Over eight years, she raised nearly $2 million—an extraordinary achievement for one person. Thanks to Sandy’s unwavering determination, many women have lived beyond their diagnoses, benefiting from the breakthroughs made possible by her efforts and the work of Breast Friends Fund.
Above all, family was Sandy’s greatest joy and priority. She expressed her love through the meals she lovingly prepared each night, ensuring her family could gather and connect over dinner—even in the most challenging days of her illness. She planned frequent family vacations, recognizing the importance of rest and time together. She deeply valued creating lasting memories and made every effort to fill the lives of those she loved with meaningful shared experiences.
