Obituary of Laura L. Blessing

Laura (Gagnon) Blessing of Avon, CT a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away on March 2, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Laura was born on April 30, 1967 to her loving parents, Richard and Patricia (Barber) Gagnon.

Laura was a graduate of Glastonbury High School and Fisher College.  She spent most of her career in the field of Human Resources before working at ESPN for the last decade in Production and Business Operations in Bristol, CT.

At the age of 16, Laura showed incredible strength and courage, overcoming cancer with unwavering determination. This early triumph was a testament to her resilience, setting the stage for a life filled with perseverance and inspiration. Throughout the years, she continued to uplift those around her, facing challenges with grace and a positive spirit that left a lasting impact on everyone she met.

In 1992, Laura married her soulmate, Michael Blessing, and they shared 33 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with wonderful memories. Laura and Michael were blessed with two children, Daniel and Kelly, who were the greatest joy and proudest accomplishment of Laura’s life.

One of Laura’s favorite places was to be by the beaches of Rhode Island where she and Michael spent their springs and summers for over a decade.  She loved spending time outdoors, whether it was a morning jog, exploring nature, or simply soaking in the warmth of the sun. She found peace in walks with friends along the shoreline, kayaking through the tranquil waters of Shelter Harbor, biking along the trails, and creating precious memories with her family and friends. Laura’s mantra was to live fully, to appreciate the beauty that surrounded her, and to make the most of every moment. She understood that life was a precious gift.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Patricia (Barber) Gagnon and her in-laws, James and Gail Blessing. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Michael Blessing of Avon, CT, her beloved children, Daniel Blessing of St. Petersburg, FL and Kelly Blessing of New York, NY:  brother Mark Gagnon of Charlestown, RI, sister Karen Lonergan and her husband Michael of Glastonbury, CT, sister Lynn LeBlanc and her husband David of Marlborough, CT, sister-in-law, Jennifer Costanzo and her husband Jeff of Glastonbury, CT, her Aunts, Janice Mastropasqua of Hebron, CT and Bonnie Rice of Rocky Hill, CT,  and seven nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a host of cherished lifelong friends who were there by her side supporting her through the most challenging and toughest of times. The void left behind is not only felt by her immediate family, but also by her circle of dear friends who were privileged to have been a part of her life's journey.

The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Hong and Dr. Charles Rutter of Hartford Healthcare for their compassion and care and all the exceptional nurses especially Jennifer Dupuis and the radiation team, Todd, Natasha and Meghan in Avon who cared for her.
