Our hearts break for Nikki, the Ruben & Lane families.
My latest memory of John is Maeve’s baptism. The caterers messed up some of the items for lunch. When the caterer returned to the house, tensions got high. Nikki & John went outside to talk to the caterer in the driveway … he was totally calm & collected, cool as a cucumber, trying to keep the peace & understanding between the groups. He definitely had a gift for grounding the chaos! That moment will always be a great example of his quiet strength.

My deepest condolences to the family.
Capt. Lane had a remarkable ability to genuinely connect with people. His radiant smile was always followed by a warm, “Heyyy, how are you and your family?” What made him special was that he listened with intention. If you shared something, he remembered it and followed up the next time you spoke. That simple act sparked a friendship that I was blessed to have with him.
I could always count on his energy to brighten the day. Working with him was not only productive, but inspiring. Even in challenging situations where others struggled to make progress, Capt. Lane had a gift for improving processes and motivating those around him. His natural ability to connect, make people feel valued, and empower them to pursue the mission was unmatched.
Capt. Lane is deeply missed. I thank God for allowing your light to leave footprints in my life, and I will forever cherish your memory.
To Capt. Lane’s parents, you raised a phenomenal young man. Thank you for sharing him with the Flying Yankees.

Dear Nikki, the Lane and Ruben families, John lit up the room whenever he walked in. He was the quintessential leader, officer and pilot; someone that others looked up to and strived to emulate. His loss has impacted all of us, however his memory will live on in the halls of The Flying Yankees and will forever inspire those who had the honor and privilege to work and fly with him. Thank you for supporting his desire to serve his country, he impacted so many during his time with the Connecticut Air National Guard. I assure you he will never be forgotten and he will always be in our hearts. Tim and Liz Juselis

Deepest sympathies to John's wife Nikki and his entire family. Thank you for sharing him with the Flying Yankees for 13 years. He was truly the best of us, someone we all wanted to be more like, regardless if you were younger or older than him. The Flying Yankees recognized his natural leadership, charisma, and dedication to excellence and helped him achieve his ambitious goals. I flew with him many times as a flight engineer and as a pilot; he was outstanding at both and truly loved his work. I helped hire him to replace me as full-time director of wing plans, he of course embraced this new responsibility with humility and humor. Every single person that met him, loved him within 5 minutes of meeting him -- a human golden retriever. His absence will be felt for years to come, and the hole in our lives without him will be profound. We love him, we miss him, we'll never forget him.

We were on the beach on his bachelors trip for his wedding with Nikki. Clean fun, so ready for life, so full of joy. He was dieting to fit in his suit, as we all can tell.
