Obituary of Barbara L. Chamberlin

Barbara L. Chamberlin, LCSW, 63, of Glastonbury, wife and best friend of D. Eric Chamberlin, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, with Eric and their son Jeff by her side. She lived a full life with a glioblastoma brain tumor for 35 months, defying the odds. Never one to waste time, she used her final months to reconnect with friends, reminisce, and say goodbye to many of the important people in her life. She had read Tuesdays with Morrie and loved the idea.

Barbara was born on August 13, 1961, in Highland Park, Illinois. Raised in Parsippany, New Jersey, she obtained a BA from Boston College and an MSW from Boston University. She treated families at The Lynn Youth Resource Bureau and later at Saint James Elementary in Manchester. For the next twenty years, she ran a psychotherapy practice for adults alongside her husband at Fox Run Psychiatric in Glastonbury. Helping others in her community was a passion that reflected her deep belief in service to others.

Barbara was a voracious reader who loved that Welles-Turner Library was right on her way home from work. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. With friends and family, she embraced hiking, sailing, camping, skiing, and cycling. While not usually the one to lead the charge, when given an opportunity she would always “give it a go” to be with the people she cared about. Selfless.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 32 years, Eric Chamberlin; her sons, Jeff Chamberlin of Winter Park, CO, and Thomas Chamberlin of New Britain; as well as her brother-in-law, R. Mark Chamberlin, and his wife, Mary Murrane, of Boston.

A celebration of life and reception will be held on Friday, June 6, at 12:00 p.m. at The Glastonbury Boathouse, 252 Welles St., Glastonbury. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Donations may be made to Welles-Turner Library or the National Brain Tumor Society.
