Obituary of Bronislaw J. Granatek

Bronislaw “Ben” Joseph Granatek, Jr., born to Emma L. (Orloski) Granatek and Bronislaw “Bruno” Granatek, Sr. passed away on May 29, 2025 at Middlesex Hospital. He was 83 years old. Ben was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, resided in Marlborough, Connecticut, and spent time in second homes in both Hillsborough, New Hampshire and Vero Beach, Florida.

Ben attended The University of Hartford where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Materials Science in 1965. He continued his education by earning additional credentials in management and chemical engineering from The University of Connecticut and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His love of learning eventually led him to become an adjunct professor at The University of Hartford for several years.

Ben was employed by Pratt & Whitney and during his employment was awarded an Employee Patent Award for his patent, Removal of Carbonaceous Material from Gas Turbine Cavities. After he retired from Pratt in 1988, Ben was President of the Turbine Components Repair Consulting, Inc. company and was also a Federal Aviation Administration Designated Engineering Representative for over ten years.

Ben was an avid outdoorsman, firearms aficionado, and talented chef. He was appointed as Armorer to Connecticut’s First Company Governor’s Foot Guard in 1984. His love of the outdoors began at a young age and included hiking and biking up mountains, as well as hunting deer, turkey, and grouse in New Hampshire. Ben also enjoyed sailing and boating on Long Island Sound with Eileen and spending time with the friends they made along the way. You could also often find Ben in the kitchen showing off his gourmet skills making anything from chicken curry, to homemade bread, and chocolate brownies.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Eileen Tofil; his only son, Keith Granatek; his dear sister Ellen Kyle; and younger brother Richard Granatek and his wife Susan. He is also survived by his niece Kristen Granatek, and nephews Jason Granatek, Terry Granatek, and Kevin Waltz, along with their respective wives and children.
