Obituary of Michael E. Yetishefsky
Michael E. Yetishefsky of South Glastonbury, passed away on July 22nd peacefully at home with family at his side. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be remembered for his love, kindness, and hard work.
Mike was born in Hartford on January 7, 1935, son of the late Michael and Celia Yetishefsky. The middle child of five, he was raised in Glastonbury with his sister and four brothers. Mike graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1953 and was named Class Athlete. In high school, Mike met his lifelong love, Joan Harned and the two high school sweethearts married in 1955. Mike and Joan lived in the same home in South Glastonbury for over 70 years.
In 1956, Mike enlisted in the Army and served until an honorable discharge in 1958. He was stationed at both Fort Ord, CA and Aschaffenburg, Germany as a transportation specialist.
After his service, Mike worked at Pratt & Whitney as a machinist until 1970. He then started M&M Farmers Supply, an agricultural container company. He owned and operated the company until his “retirement” in 2023. This occupation brought Mike (aka “Boxman”) into contact with farmers throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts who became his lifelong and best friends.
Mike was an active and lifelong member of the Matson Hill Community Club in Glastonbury. He was a fixture there; serving on the board, cooking for large events, and playing cards (Set Back). He was an avid Red Sox and UConn Husky fan. Later in life, Mike travelled extensively, cruising and sightseeing worldwide.
