Mrs. Thomas, Joanne, Jenna, and Family,
I’m deeply saddened by the loss of Commissioner Thomas. He was not only an exceptional public servant but also a true pillar of the 100 Club and Police Memorial communities. On a personal note, he was an incredible source of support and kindness to my family, and I can only imagine how many others were touched by his steady and compassionate spirit. May the loving memories you hold of him bring you comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Sending condolences to the family of Chief and Commissioner Thomas. If there is a model for the finest qualities of public service in Glastonbury, the State of Connecticut and beyond--and for a genuinely nice guy--it would be Skip Thomas. A sentence from the beautiful obituary captures what so many feel: "Skip will be remembered for many wonderful different things but most importantly for helping others and treating everyone with respect, a legacy he has passed on to his children and grandchildren and everyone who knew him." Rest in peace, sir.

Dear Thomas Family, Jane, Joanne Jenna:
Words can not express the pain and sorrow for your loss….Seldom do great inspirational men come along and Skip was the one in a million in every way. I enjoyed my days and time..... the many years working with Skip in the Youth and detective divisions in Glastonbury. We later diverged into different careers outside of Glastonbury Police Department but within the same fields…..
Please know that Debbie and I wish you and your family the strength and peace to endure this most difficult time in your lives.

Dear Jane, Joanne and Jenna - I was so saddened to learn of the loss of Skip, your husband and dad. I lived up the street from you on Weir St. many years ago and was a babysitter for the girls when they were very young. I always appreciated Mr. Thomas’ role in the High School in the 70’s and felt safe when he was nearby. I remember as his career advanced my family was proud to be a reference for him. You were our neighbor and friend, we have such fond memories of your family. May he rest in peace and may your loving memories heal you.

As a member of the Federal government (US Dept of Homeland Security) assigned in CT, I can say Commissioner Thomas was one of the most respectful, upstanding people in the State. He always welcomed participation of outside agencies and worked hard to promote harmony and synergy amongst us all. He will be sorely missed by my wife, Lee, and me and certainly by most every agency in the State. Rest in Peace, Commissioner.

Mrs. Thomas, Joanne, Jenna, and Family,
Please accept my deepest and most sincere condolences on the passing of Chief Thomas. I will be forever grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to serve with the Glastonbury Police Department nearly 30 years ago, a role I continue to hold to this day and serve proudly in.
Over the years, no matter where his career took him, we remained in touch. I could always count on and look forward to his feedback, insight, and advice. He was truly a unicorn in this profession, always a teacher, always a mentor, but most of all, always a friend. No matter the issue or scenario I brought to him, he was a guiding light, a trusted source of wisdom whom I deeply respected and appreciated. He supported my career every step of the way, never hesitating to serve as a reference or champion my aspirations.
Chief Thomas also became close with my family. In 2021, when I lost two of my siblings (five weeks apart), he called almost daily, checking in, offering support, and asking if my family or I needed anything. He formed a strong bond with my brother Matt in Westerly, and their conversations about policing, leadership, and administration were frequent and meaningful. Matt would often tell me what a remarkable friend and resource the Chief had become to him, and I couldn’t agree more. Chief Thomas was an anomaly, truly one of a kind. They broke the mold with him.
In closing, I owe a debt of gratitude to Chief Thomas and to the entire Thomas family for sharing such an extraordinary man with me over the past 30-plus years. He will never be forgotten.
May he rest in peace.

To the family of “Skip” Thomas. Please accept my sincerest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. As a member of the CSP I worked several cases with Skip when he was the Vernon Police Chief. Years later I worked under him when he was the Commissioner of the CSP. He was a genuine, honorable, sincere and professional human being. It was an honor to have known him. To know him was to love him. I’m glad I called him several weeks ago to talk and check on him. He is now with God’s Angels. “When you lose someone you love, you gain an Angel you know”. RIP my friend.

Dearest Jane, Joanne, Jenna and family
Skip gave so much of himself to the police family. I thank you for supporting him in that. As a police L.O.D. widow he was always there for us. I would give him a telephone call and he'd always say "how can I help".
It wasn't the uniform that made him who he was it was his heart.

Jane, Joanne and Jenna,
Words cannot begin to express how sorry we are to hear of Skip’s passing.
Skip was an example of strength, caring, compassion, dedication, and hard work in everything he did for his family and in his career. He was a leader in the law enforcement community for the State of CT.
Skip left an impression on our lives and my children’s lives that will not be forgotten.
His organizing of football games with our families on the Westerly beaches is among many of our great memories.
He will always be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Our deepest condolences,
Jim and Carla Hankard
