Obituary of Edith E. Rafferty
Edith E. Rafferty, 82, of Mystic passed away at home on November 15, 2025. Edith had previously lived in Windsor Locks, Glastonbury, and Dennis MA. She was born in Hartford and was raised in West Hartford along with her five siblings. As a youngster, Edith enjoyed spending her summers with her family at the shore at Groton Long Point and passed her love of the sea on to her own children. She was an extremely talented woman and was an excellent cook and crafter. But her true calling was rug hooking where she excelled and won numerous awards-including the prestigious ATHA Award and the Crone Silver Bowl at the Barnstable County Fair in Massachusetts. She also loved to travel with friends and family and enjoyed new experiences.
Edith loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time with them- attending their sporting events, taking them on field trips, teaching them to bake cookies and make strawberry jam, taking them to the beach to look for seashells, or taking them fishing with her.
Her family will miss her positive, calming, and loving spirit. Edith was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Patrick, and is survived by her two children- Kelley Glowa and her husband, Ted, and Thomas Rafferty and his wife, Barbara. She had four grandchildren- Michael Glowa, James Glowa and his fiancé Kelly O’Keefe, Patrick Rafferty and his fiancé Alyson Burchfield, and Kaihley (Rafferty) Pichnarcik and her husband Drew. Edith is also survived by her siblings, Alice Kaptinski of Charlestown, RI, Nancy Griswold, of Bradford, VT, a brother Donald Griswold of Barkhamsted, CT, and her brother-in-law, Jeffrey Runyon of Moodus, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, Bradford and Marjorie Griswold, as well as her brother Allen Griswold and sister Dorothy Runyon.
