Obituary of George A. White

George Alan White, son of the late George F. White and Violet Hoskin White was born at home in Thompsonville (Enfield) on March 22, 1939. He died on December 17, 2025 at his home at Lake Hayward in East Haddam surrounded by his family.

George attended Enfield schools and was a member of the Enfield High School class of 1958.

George’s first job following high school was as a tool and gauge maker, however in his words, law enforcement always held an attraction. He first served as a police officer in Windsor Locks and Enfield before eventually finding his way to the Glastonbury Police Department.

George was with the Glastonbury Police Department for over 20 years before retiring as a Lieutenant in 1992.

During that time, he held various positions in the department. The role he favored most was that of a Youth Officer. He also served as the advisor to the Glastonbury Explorer Post. He impacted many young lives during his career. He was named Policeman of the Year by the Glastonbury American Legion in 1978.

While at the Glastonbury Police Department he attended the FBI National Academy, Session #167.

Following his retirement from the Glastonbury Police Department he was appointed Chief of the Groton Long Point Police Department. He held that position for 12 years, entering his second retirement in 2004.

In retirement he continued to enjoy skiing and flying radio control model airplanes. He might tell you he was a decent skier, and a not so good RC pilot.

George was a loving and devoted family man, enjoying time on the lake, Vermont ski trips, and participating in the Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race with his wife, kids, granddaughters and extended family.  He was a man of great patience having taught his wife, son, daughter and both granddaughters to ski. He was often described as a gentleman.

George is survived by his wife Marie (Keleher), his son James and Julie White, daughter June White and Jeff Haggerty, granddaughter Meaghan White and her fiancé John Pizzoni, his granddaughter Katelyn White and her fiancé Bradley Kempf.

He also leaves a large extended family of Salisburys, Sloanes and Kelehers, and Jae Elder.

He was predeceased by his sister Jean Nelson, his sister Marilyn Triolo, sisters-in-law Jane Keleher and Lynn Keleher and brothers- in -law Tom Keleher and Andy Keleher.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 22, 2025 at 11:00 am at First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 21, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury.
