Obituary of Vaidotas Kuzminskas
Vaidotas “Whitey” Kuzminskas, 84, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of 62 years to Gloria A. Kuzminskas, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at New Britain General Hospital. Born January 1, 1941, in Lithuania, he was the son of the late Stasys and Sophie (Zickus) Kuzminskas.
In 1944, as the Soviet invasion of Lithuania neared the end of World War II, Vaidotas and his parents were forced to flee their homeland, leaving behind all their relatives. They spent five years in various displaced persons camps in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1949, eventually settling in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Vaidotas, affectionately known as “Whitey” to family and friends, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in 1962. He was awarded a teaching assistantship to continue his studies and received a Master of Science degree in 1964. He was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
After moving to Glastonbury, Connecticut in 1964, Whitey began a 37-year career with United Technologies Corporation (UTC Fuel Cells), retiring after decades of dedicated service.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Whitey will be dearly missed. His favorite place to vacation was Chatham on Cape Cod, where he spent many happy days with his family. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Augustine Church in South Glastonbury.
In addition to his loving wife Gloria, Whitey leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen Kuzminskas of Boston, Massachusetts; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Charles Birbara of West Hartford, Connecticut; and his cherished grandchildren: Kendall and John Kuzminskas, and Olivia, James, and Alexa Birbara, who affectionately called him “Papa Whitey.”
He took great pride in supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and school activities, always their biggest fan.
As Whitey wished, arrangements will be private and without calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Foodshare at https://www.ctfoodshare.org .
