Obituary of Henry Neil Fresk
Henry “Neil” Fresk, a lifelong resident of Glastonbury, Connecticut, passed away on December 30, surrounded by family and the memories of a life well lived. Born in Glastonbury in 1941 to Henry Fresk and Arlene House Fresk, Neil was deeply rooted in the community and remained a steadfast presence in the town he called home. He will be fondly remembered for his warmth, quick wit, and the lasting impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Neil graduated from Glastonbury High School, where he met his beloved wife, Judith “Judy” Cutler. High school sweethearts, they married in 1963 and went on to build a beautiful life together, one rooted in love, family, and a deep commitment to their community.
Affectionately known around town as “Napa Neil,” he was the longtime owner of Napa Auto Parts, becoming a familiar presence for generations of customers. He was a passionate historian, remembered for his love of local history, and took great pride in the stories and traditions of Glastonbury. Neil also enjoyed all things sports, particularly golf, European soccer, and of course, UCONN basketball. He was known for his sharp intellect, impressive memory, and his signature love of a good cigar.
A proud parent and grandparent, Neil found his greatest joy in family time. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s activities and deeply treasured Sunday family dinners. He volunteered regularly in the community driving for F.I.S.H. and was a longtime member of the Glastonbury Service Club. Neil loved being behind the wheel. Many will fondly remember his beloved car, affectionately nicknamed “Old Smokey,” and his dependable presence as the family’s reliable chauffeur.
In retirement, Neil and Judy traveled extensively. Their journeys took them across 5 continents where they forged lasting memories, formed meaningful friendships, and deepened their appreciation for the beauty of the world around them.
He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Matt, whose memory Neil held close to his heart. Neil is survived by his wife, Judy; his brother, Gene Fresk; his son David (Cyndi); his daughter Lauren Herring (Marc); and his grandchildren Daniel, Andrew, Matthew, William, and Sarah.
