Obituary of Paula Tripp

With grateful hearts for a life beautifully lived, we share that Paula Ward Tripp, of Cromwell, Connecticut, formerly of Glastonbury for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, to Raymond Ward, Sr. and Edith Buckman, Paula carried her love of family, creativity, and community throughout her life. A graduate of Chamberlayne College with a degree in Interior Design, she had an eye for beauty and a gift for creating warm, welcoming spaces.

Paula and her beloved husband of 59 years, Peter, built not only a marriage full of friendship and laughter, but also a legacy in Connecticut’s restaurant community. Together they opened and operated several beloved establishments, including Blacksmith Tavern, Great American Café, and Stripers — places known for great food, loyal patrons, and the unmistakable warmth that Paula helped create. In addition, she shared her design talents and vibrant personality through her work at United Paint, Close to Home, and Expressions.

Paula and Peter lived life fully — surrounded by friends, laughter, and many memorable gatherings. Summers in Bonnet Shores and trips to Newport were cherished traditions, as was her daily devotion to the Hartford Courant’s Jumble, which she rarely missed.

Deeply rooted in Glastonbury, Paula was actively involved in the community for decades, serving as President of the Jaycees and as a member of Gourmet Club. In recent years, she and Peter enjoyed their chapter at TPC in Cromwell, where she was a devoted member of the Book Club and Social Committee. Wherever she was, Paula built connection, friendship, and fun.

Above all, Paula adored her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Peter; her daughters, Jennifer Foster and her husband Jay, and Kimberly Tripp and her partner Jeff McKinney; her treasured grandchildren, Sydney, Abigail, Haley, Alyssa and her husband Ben; her brother Raymond Ward, Jr. and his wife Janet; and her sister Kathleen Tummillo and her husband Robert. She was predeceased by her siblings Bruce Ward and Janet Ward.

Her greatest joy was being “Nana,” and she took immense pride in her granddaughters. Her love, humor, and steady presence will live on in the traditions she created and the family she so beautifully shaped.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her devoted aide, Maria, whose compassion, patience, and kindness brought comfort, dignity, and friendship to Paula in her final chapter. We are deeply thankful for the loving care she provided.

Her life was defined by love, creativity, friendship, and family — and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth that will continue for generations.

Calling hours will be held at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, on Thursday, March 19, from 4pm to 6pm. A memorial service will be held at First Church of Christ, 2183 Main Street, Glastonbury, on Friday, March 20 at 11am. Burial to be at the convenience of the family.
