Catherine Corcoran

Obituary of Catherine Corcoran

Catherine Corcoran a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and unforgettable force of nature, passed away just days before what would have been her 95th birthday on May 4. Though small in stature—barely reaching five feet, even with her signature pile of vibrant reddish-orange curls—Catherine filled every room she entered with energy, laughter, and unmistakable presence. Her iconic hair, as bold as her personality, was just one reflection of the spark she carried through life.

To know Catherine was to know a true spitfire. She was feisty, strong-minded, and full of life, with a spark that never dimmed. She said what she thought, loved fiercely, and lived with a kind of joy and boldness that drew people in instantly. Whether chatting with strangers, dancing at weddings, or holding court over coffee, she had a way of making people feel entertained.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Leonard (“Lenny”) Corcoran, her sister Anna, and her son Daniel Pembroke. She is lovingly survived by her son Michael Pembroke  and his wife Barbara, and her daughter-in-law Raffaela Pembroke; her four grandchildren—Lauren (Mike), Amanda (Dan), Ryan (Christina), and Daniel (Stepanie) and her nine great-grandsons—Nathan, Camden, Benny, Spencer, Marshall, Henry, Emmett,  Jaxon and Nicholas who carry forward her spirit in countless ways.

As a grandmother, Catherine was defined by her generosity. Nothing brought her more joy than giving—arriving for visits with her tiny frame somehow loaded down with presents, bags of treats, donuts, cannoli, and little surprises that made her presence feel like a celebration. She gave freely and never expected anything in return. Even into her 70s and 80s, Catherine remained remarkably active—heading to the gym at dawn, where she became a beloved regular among people decades younger, all drawn to her warmth and vitality.

In her final chapter, even as memory faded, her spirit did not. At her memory care center, Addison Place she remained a favorite among staff—spunky, chatty, and often found at the breakfast bar with her coffee, happily engaging anyone nearby.

Catherine lived a life filled with love, laughter, and connection. She left an impression on everyone she met—family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was magic: vibrant, generous, hilarious, and unforgettable.

And if there is a dance floor somewhere, we can only imagine she’s up there now, laughing and dancing the Lindy with Lenny
