Dennis Phelan

Obituary of Dennis Patrick Phelan

Dennis Patrick Phelan passed out of this life to a better place. After serving in the Airforce, Dennis attended college at UCLA and UMASS, earning a masters degree in public administration. He then went to work in various public service jobs within the field of public housing. He ended his career working at Davenport house; a home for un-housed men.  Dennis always had a soft spot for anyone who was struggling in life; especially children living in poverty. He felt strongly that housing and healthcare were a human right. The one true success he felt he achieved were his four children. Seeing them happy brought him great satisfaction. Dennis was lucky to have married 2 women during his 90 years. Angela Aissis Phelan whom he shared four children with and Carol Noyes whom he met later in life. Dad loved his Irish heritage and enjoyed Irish music. His great love was reading. He read books in every genre including all the great works. He could often be found reading to the children of the neighborhood when his children were young. He read “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” to his children and their friends whenever there was a rainy afternoon. He coached his sons midget football teams and enjoyed being a father very much. He leaves behind his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kathleen Phelan, her husband Scott and children: Brynn (Marlowe and Pippa), Carly (Lucille) and Tim. John Phelan, his wife Danielle and children: Sarah and Christopher, Timothy Phelan and his partner Stacey and son: Jake. Dennis was predeceased by his beloved son Christopher Aissis Phelan in the year 2000. The family would like to thank the staff at Addison Place and all the health care personnel who took the time to show Dennis encouragement and kindness over the past 18 months. Rest easy Dad until we meet again….
