I worked with Ed in the Glastonbury School System while he was Director Of Youth and Family Services. No matter how busy he was, he ALWAYS made time for children, parents, teachers and community members at large who were in need of support.
Whenever Ed was called upon to assist us, all were met with gentle, and sincere hugs. Ed was famous for his warm, authentic hugs!
I recall a time when one of my students was in crisis, and he told me to hop in the car with my student and come over to YFS. This was well after "working hours".
Upon arrival, Ed greeted us at the door. He found a quiet room where the 2 of us were offered something to eat and drink.
Through his gentle presence, and soft spoken voice, he got the child to open up all the while as he softly strummed his guitar. His guitar provided an ambience that felt safe and secure for the child . We sat in silence for a while and very gradually the child opened up to Ed. The tears eventually stopped and a plan was crafted to seek resolution for my student's immediate needs.
In the years to come, I witnessed a number of such encounters during group sessions at YSF.
He did so much good for the Glastonbury community and without me realizing it at the time, he helped me to become a better person. In my mind's eye, he will always be a "shining Knight"!

Ed was a very kind and thoughtful person. He could say a lot if called upon but generally he listened and listened well. He didn’t judge quickly or harshly. Sitting next to Ed and sharing a beer was always relaxing and pleasurable. His family meant the world to him and they will miss him dearly.

Ed will be remembered with love by the Duggan family. He stepped in and was a constant pillar of support when we lost our parents and he was always a kind, compassionate and loving person.
My husband Gary and I were blessed that he officiated our wedding. He was a wonderful man and raised a lovely family, Our condolences to all of you.
