Obituary of Gerard F. Coderre
With deepest sadness, we share that on July 2, 2026, Gerard F. Coderre of Glastonbury, CT, passed peacefully into transition at the age of 90. He was an outgoing, adventurous and ingenious friend and father who loved boating and the ocean. He was inventive and full of ideas, which he would share with anyone interested in listening. He continually endeavored in creative projects and loved to fix things so that they were just “a little bit better.” “Gerry” was an identical twin born on a leap year. He grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts with his brother Marcel, helping their father run a hotel near the Orpheum Theater. They were surrounded by a large family as their father Alfred had 9 siblings. “The Twins” moved to South Glastonbury at a young age renting on Matson Hill Road. Gerry soon met his sweetheart Rose Dondero at the South Glastonbury Pharmacy (currently Harpo’s Bakery) Soda Counter where she made ice cream frappes. They married, built a home on Matson Hill Road and raised 3 children, Robert, Jeanne, and Mark Coderre. After starting his career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, our Dad founded and ran a small manufacturing business with Marcel called GCM Products in East Hartford, CT, from the 60s through the 80s. They invented and patented “Wrapp Cleat,” a product aimed at making boating easier with a more dependable way to secure boats and lines.
Gerry married again to Constance Platts of New Canaan, CT and spent his later years re- designing and enhancing beautiful homes in Mystic, CT; New Hope, PA; and Islamorada, FL. They also spent much time sailing the east coast and beyond. After tenderly caring for Constance before she passed, he moved back to Glastonbury to be close to his family. He was an inspiration to his family and friends and will be dearly missed, as will “The Twins” as they were known in New Canaan and at the Glastonbury businesses they frequented.
Gerard was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Helen, his wife Connie, and his daughter Jeanne. He leaves his son Robert Coderre, his son Mark and wife Hilory (Federgreen Wagner) Coderre, and his granddaughters Ashley, Melissa, and Emma Coderre. He is also survived by his brother Marcel, nieces Nancy Lawlor and Diane Vest of Glastonbury and nephew Bruce Coderre of Deep River, CT.
