Obituary of Salvatore S. Vullo

Salvatore Vullo died peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, just 25 days after his beloved soulmate and wife of 66 years, Carole Gerard Vullo.

Sal was born in Berlin, Connecticut in 1934, the son of Sam and Sarah Vullo. At ten years old, he moved with his family to Glastonbury, Connecticut. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years.

After serving, he and his father opened S. Vullo and Son Nursery on Main Street in Glastonbury for several years. Sal had a natural green thumb and had been in farming since the age of five. In 1972, he opened his own nursery in Glastonbury called Sal's Evergreen Nursery, where he worked side by side with Carole for 15 years.

Sal was a proud business owner with a dedicated driven work ethic and his homes were impeccably landscaped. He owned several businesses over the years, including Griswold Associates, and was also a contractor with his Tri-axle truck, which he was very proud of and kept sparkling clean.

Sal built his own home in Westerly, Rhode Island, where he spent many weekends making family memories. He enjoyed walking on the beach at 5 am collecting years of beautiful sea glass. He was a master gardener, and looked forward to it every year and took great pride in it.

He had a funny, dry sense of humor, was spontaneous, and anyone who knew Sal had a lot of fun with him. He was a fun grandfather as well! Sal believed you should always know how to drive a standard shift vehicle and always have money in your pocket to always be prepared.

Sal was also the grill master and enjoyed making homemade pizza. Sal was the happiest being outdoors. He loved Nascar racing and going to Florida.

He leaves his daughter Sally Vullo; his daughter Robin Pugliese, and her husband Glenn Pugliese, his beloved grandsons Anthony Salvatore Pugliese and John Michael Pugliese.

He was predeceased by his soulmate and wife Carole Vullo, his sister Carol (Vullo) Pehr, his brother John Vullo, and sister in law Joyce Vullo.

He leaves behind special nieces Denise Whalen, Julie Shea, many nieces and nephews, and close family friend Debra Olszewski.

Thank you to all the caregivers, friends and family for the last 42 months who helped Sal be able to live at his home and live out his life to almost 93 years old. He will be deeply missed.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 18 at 10am in SS. Isidore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 17 from 4pm to 6pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
