Our heartfelt condolences to Nina and the Gulbas family. Jerry and Nina were great neighbors. In the mornings when I left the house and later when I came home, he would usually be sitting on the bench in front and he was always either laughing at something or telling a good joke, some of which I could not repeat to my kids, even today. But he always had a smile on his face. I can’t begin to count how many times Jerry would help me with something in the house, or for that matter assisting us practically every Sukkos to put up the Sukkah. He gave our younger son, Elyashiv, a carpenters tool box with tools in it which I believe my son still has. We were very sad when Jerry and Nina moved away. He regaled us with stories about life in the Soviet Union, the Polish Army, the Israeli army and their life in Israel. Jerry may have been the ship that moved the family forward but Nina was the anchor. You could tell the way they acted with each other that this was a lifetime relationship that nothing would ever interfere with. I would bet that Heaven is rejoicing they have Jerry around to bring his humor and common sense to share with others. Our family prays for Nina that she be at peace and tranquility in her days and that her mind is only filled with happy thoughts of their lives together. Jerry’s memory is in our hearts and minds forever, may God comfort and bless the Gulbas family in this time of sorrow but when I think of Jerry I can’t help but smile, Amen.

I spent many days in Jerry and Nina’s house in Queens hanging out listening to Billy Joel with Ruth. It was like my second home. Jerry was one of a kind in so many ways and I loved “growing up in that house.” You will be missed! Sending huge hugs and love to the whole family!

My family and I shared many memories at Vants and being neighbors down the street in Queens. BBQs, celebrations, family events and the memories of our common neighborhood where we all grew up together. Another of his generation is gone, yet through those that remain his remarkable journey through life will live on. And the memory of holding his grandchildren, a triumph of will was I’m sure his greatest treasure. My deepest condolences to the family for their loss.

Jerry and Nina have been our next door neighbors for nearly 19 years. He was a character, funny, always had a story to tell and we certainly had lots of fun together over the years. Andy and I will miss him . He was a good family man who loved each of his children and grandchildren. Rest in Peace Jerry. Jeannie and Andy Ferraro

I only had the pleasure of knowing Jerry for a few months, but what a few months that was. He opened his home to anyone and everyone with love and respect, and wisdom for the ages. I will truly miss my conversations of laughing and recollecting his wonderful life.

Our deepest condolences to the entire family, especially having just learnt of this. As many have we remember Jerry as quite a character but moreso as Aunt Nina’s loving husband and so loved by his children and grandchildren. Having heard a number of stories over the years about Nina and Jerry’s history from my Dad Hy Kay ( and my mom Goldie of course too. I certainly did not know all of this. Thank you for sharing. I know my father loved his Sister Nina greatly and I pray she copes with this loss as well as all of you. Our deepest sympathies again. His will forever be a blessing.

My deepest condolences to the family. It has been such a joy to see what a wonderfully close and loving family you are through pictures on Facebook. The S. Vant summers holds some of my favorite memories. It’s somehow never occurred to me at the time that we all came from the same background. Our parents work during the week and come upstate on the weekends. I remember Jerry very fondly. He was definitely a character. I think he even let us shoot his rifle at cans And would show off his tatoo. I’m sure you will all miss him dearly. I hope Niina is OK. May his memory be a blessing.

I remember your father fondly. We was quite a character and always made me feel welcomed. The summers we spent together upstate were wonderful and memories I will never forget, even all these years later. I’m sure your dad died happy and content with the legacy he left behind. It’s really a testament to his character that he could have survived some of the worst events in human history and lived the life that he did. He will be missed.
