Obituary of Richard Koropatkin

Richard Koropatkin Richard Koropatkin, 75 of Vernon passed away peacefully at Gladeview Rehabilitation Center in Old Saybrook on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer and leukemia.

Rick was born on December 19, 1950 in Hartford, CT where he grew up and attended school. Rick graduated from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1969. He went on to enlist in the Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Nothing made him prouder than to be a Vietnam veteran. After returning to the states, Rick was employed by the US Postal Service for 30+ years.

Rick loved animals and would, without question pick up a stray bring it home. Rick looked forward to, and enjoyed, family gatherings. He was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. In addition to jaunts to the casino, he frequently met with his siblings to enjoy a “catch-up-on-things lunch with his siblings. Family meant everything to him; especially his son Adam, who he cherished. There was never a conversation that didn’t include a success story about Adam.

In addition to his son Adam, Rick is survived by his brother Nicholas Koropatkin and his wife Lyn, his sister Terri (Koropatkin) Bangs and her husband George and Gary Koropatkin and his wife Maria. He was gentle soul with a kind heart. He will always be deeply loved and missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 11 at 12noon in Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Burial will held at 2pm in CT State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA.org/donate). Rick’s love and caring for an animal in need knew no limits.
