Obituary of Neil J. Griffin
Neil Joseph Griffin, 91, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026.
He was born on March 25, 1935, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Cornelius and Catherine Griffin. He attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. Neil earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from Western New England College. He went on to build a career during the early years of the computer and technology industry, working for Honeywell Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation.
Neil met his wife, Carol Chamberlain Griffin, at Rockledge Country Club in 1967 and they married in 1968. In 1977, Neil and Carol moved to Glastonbury where they raised their four children and made it their home for 48 years. Neil was actively involved in the community and spent many years coaching youth sports. Neil built lasting friendships with his high school classmates, neighbors, coworkers and many others throughout his life. He endeared himself to all who met him through his warmth and ease of conversation. His friends and family loved him for his unassuming nature and quick sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol; his son, Neil Griffin Jr.; his granddaughter, Chloe, daughter of Neil and the late Mary Bertolini Griffin, Glastonbury, Connecticut; his daughter, Patricia Griffin Conway, and her husband, Jason, and their sons, Harrison and Jacob, of Exeter, New Hampshire; his son, David Griffin, and his wife Emily, and their sons, Owen and Landon, of Iowa City, Iowa; his son, Brian Griffin, and his children Phoebe and Henry, of Woodstock, Connecticut; and his sister, Mary Catherine Griffin, of Cheshire, Connecticut.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at SS Isidore and Maria Parish in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial will follow immediately at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17 Wickham Road, Glastonbury.
