Obituary of Russell E. Malz

Russell “Russ” E. Malz, 85, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Gerry Malz for 59 years prior to her passing in 2021 and loving father to Elaine Caporale, who passed in 2020.

Born in White Plains, NY, Russ was the son of the late Russell (Sr.) and Dorothy (Sullivan) Malz. He prided himself on being an amazing chemist with 23 patents. He loved to read, exercise, and debate, and he had a fiercely competitive spirit. Russ volunteered countless hours at “Youth Services” during his early adulthood in Naugatuck, and later led several School Building Committees resulting in new schools being built. Russ loved his kids, their partners, and his grandchildren, but he was most proud of being a devoted husband to the love of his life, his “Schutzie”.

Russ is survived by his son Russell E. Malz III and his wife Kimberly of South Glastonbury, his daughter Jennifer Malz and her partner Corey Schmidek of Manchester, his son William Malz and his wife Cindy of Colchester, and his son-in-law Bill Caporale of Glastonbury. Additionally, he leaves his 17 grandchildren: Rielly Malz, Kacey Malz, Mallory Malz, Elizabeth Caporale, Tom Caporale, Michael Caporale, Jake Caporale, and Zack Caporale, Alex Collins, Andy Collins, Chris Collins, Sam Collins, Alyssa Schmidek, Jacob Schmidek, Odin Malz, Tallulah Malz, and Dalila Malz.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:30 pm at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Al-Anon Family Groups, 277 Main St: Hartford, CT 06106.
