Obituary of Benjamin William Wittman

Benjamin “Benny” William Wittman 1988-2017 Ben was taken from us far too early on February 10th, 2017. Ben began his wonderful journey on September 8th, 1988. He was raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut. His memory lives on through his immediate family; Bill, Bonnie, Brent, Bethany and Brooke, his soulmate Kristen, his closest friends, countless numbers of extended family, and his beloved dog Penelope “Pixie” Wittman. Ben was a sweet and wild soul. He was described by others as sensitive, loving, thoughtful, a true individual, and a gentle spirit. Intelligent, witty and outrageous, Ben marched to the beat of his own drum. He healed others and himself through pranks, laughter, and comedy. Anyone fortunate to know Benny will never forget his goofy humor and contagious laugh. Ben’s life was untamed, and his adventurous, gypsy spirit brought others on his journey with him. Ben’s travels took him everywhere from a Libertines concert and Oktoberfest in Germany, to a spiritual quest at Joshua Tree in California. Ben felt at home not in one place, but when he was with the people he held close to his heart. Ben was a gifted artist; creating and composing music, poetry, short stories, paintings and drawings. His tattoos illustrated his life’s story. Ben found peace and comfort in music, and we believe he will continue to touch all of us through his favorite lyrics and song. His love for animals was intense and pure, he often found solace with them more so than people. It was that love that led him to spend many seasons at Robb’s Farm, volunteer for the Protectors of Animals, and work at a veterinary clinic. His deepest love was for his childhood golden retriever Abbey, and his princess Pixie. Family and loved ones should find comfort knowing Benny was welcomed by his Grandma Marlene, and Abbey girl. As he wished, his ashes will be set free at Joshua Tree. “Shine on, you crazy diamond.” A service will be held in Ben’s honor at South Congregational Church in South Glastonbury on Friday, February 17th. The service will take place from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Attendees will be invited to share their favorite memories of Ben. A reception will be held afterwards at 2 Hopewell Bistro and Tavern until 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please entertain making a donation in Ben’s memory to either of the foundations listed below: the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder, or Protectors of Animals.
