Obituary of Mark D. Pollard

Mark D. Pollard, 62, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Glastonbury, passed away peacefully Saturday March 31, 2018. Born September 26, 1955 in Hartford, son of Kenneth Pollard of Glastonbury and the late Louise (Abalan) Pollard, he was raised in Glastonbury and had lived in Florida for the past several years. Mark, known as "Stick" to many, graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1974, where he was on the soccer and baseball teams where he was named captain for his leadership ability.  He was an avid New York Yankees fan, attending as many games as possible.  Mark pursued his love of baseball by attending umpire school in Florida and played the sport into his early adult years. One of his proudest moments in sports was having the chance to try out for the Montreal Expos Spring Training while in Florida. Mark passed on his passion for sports to his children, who he coached throughout their childhood.  He cared more about sportsmanship than winning.   He taught each of his kids how to put forth their best efforts, while instilling confidence and passion.  Mark never used the words "I can't" and always had a positive attitude. He used his strong work ethic to be a successful entrepreneur over the years, owning both a car rental and tire business, along with many other endeavors. He was always willing to help a friend in need and loved giving advice.  Mark was an active member of the Vero Beach Seventh Day Adventist Church where he frequently participated in mass and bible study. But most of all, he enjoyed time and conversations spent with his children. Besides his father he is survived by his four children, Brendan Pollard and his wife Jen of West Hartford, Kelsey Bowler and her husband Ryan of East Hampton, Marty Pollard of West Hartford, Seana Pollard of Portland, a brother Michael Pollard and his wife Julie of Farmington, 2 sisters and their husbands Cynthia and Michael Roach of Glastonbury, Cheryl and Frank Pobutkiewicz of East Hartford. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Friday April 6th from 5-7pm. Graveside services and burial will be held at Green Cemetery, Hubbard St., on Sunday April 8th at 10 AM.  Mark’s family would like to thank Pastor Charron Graham and the congregation of the Vero Beach Seventh Day Adventist Church for their unwavering support and friendship to Mark. They also want to thank Dr. Albert Gardner for his years of care, as well as the entire staff at Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida for their kindness and compassion.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association at: RSDSA, PO Box 502, Milford, CT 06460 or online at  :https://rsds.org/donate/.
