Obituary of Henry "Hank" Schecher
Henry (Hank) Schecher, 82, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on June 15th at Hartford Hospital with his family at his side. He was born on January 25, 1936 in Brooklyn NY and was the son of the late Catherine and Henry Schecher of Glendale NY. He is survived by his wife Maureen (Mo) of 62 years, his sons Michael and Robert, his daughter in-law Liz, his grandchildren Sean, Ricky, Michael, Rahessa, Kevin, his grand-dog Hershey, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved sister Emma.
After marrying his wife Maureen on November 24, 1956, he served in the US Army and was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington for 2 years where he developed his trade as a Draftsman. He was employed by the construction firm Jaros, Baum, & Bolles (JB&B) in Manhattan for 50 years where he utilized his skills to design HVAC systems for high rise buildings throughout the world until his retirement in 2006. During his marriage he lived in Cypress Hills Brooklyn, followed by 7 years in in Rosedale NY, and then 38 years in East Meadow NY. In 2011 they retired near their son Michael in Glastonbury CT.
In his youth Hank was an avid golfer, bowler, and softball player. He was a long-time fan of the New York Giants as well as the New York Mets. He enjoyed the History channel and watching golf on TV. He thoroughly enjoyed family outings to various parts of New England and enjoyed the treat of eating clams as well as ice cream. He attended St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Glastonbury and was a believer in Jesus Christ.
Calling hours will be held at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Thursday, June 21st, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 22nd at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Roman Catholic Church at 2577 Main Street in Glastonbury followed by entombment in Holy Cross Cemetery at 1318 Hebron Ave in Glastonbury.
