Obituary of Mary Anne Smith

Mary Anne (Barber) Smith, age 72, of Glastonbury, CT, passed away surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, after a long illness. She was born to the late Joseph and Julia (Duane) Barber of Hoosick Falls, NY, on September 2, 1945. Mary Anne was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Hoosick Falls, NY, and attended Cobelskill College.  She worked for many years for the Glastonbury, CT, Board of Education.  She was warm and joyful and generous, and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She loved to travel, to socialize, and to entertain.  Above all, she loved to spend time with her family and many friends. Mary Anne is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Kenneth Smith of Glastonbury, two adoring daughters: Jessica (Smith) Hodder and her husband Jeffrey Hodder of Bolton, CT, and Stephanie (Smith) Richards and her husband Jeffrey Richards of Columbia, CT,  two grandchildren who were the light of her life: Kenneth & Kathryn Hodder of Bolton, two brothers: Bertram Barber of Saratoga, NY,  and John Barber and his wife Kathleen of Pittsfield, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Michael Barber of Bennington, VT, in 2017, and is also survived by Michael's partner of many years, Jean Short. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last illness, and for the many prayers and words of love and encouragement received from so many friends and loved ones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Aug. 14 at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury, CT. (everyone please meet directly at church)  Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, 99 Hubbard St., Glastonbury.  Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, CT on Monday Aug 13 from 4-7pm.
