Obituary of Charles R. Wilcox
Charles Royce Wilcox died peacefully at home September 28, surrounded by his three children. He was 95. Born 11/2/1922, he was educated in Enfield public schools and graduated from Middlebury College. Royce served his country, leaving Middlebury in 1942 and serving in the European Theater of World War II from1943-45. He returned to Middlebury where he met and fell in love with the beautiful Glenna Seely. They were married in 1950. He spent his entire career in the insurance industry, retiring from the Covenant Insurance Group in 1987. Royce and Glenna moved to Glastonbury in 1958, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Royce enjoyed camping, photography and geology. He was very active in leadership at St Luke’s Episcopal Church. He fought for racial justice as a member of the NAACP. He served on the board of directors for A Better Chance for Education (ABC Glastonbury). Royce was predeceased by his beloved wife, Glenna, and his brother, Milo. He is survived by his three children, Duane (Debi), Martha O’Connor (Bernie), Amy (Kevin Shale), as well as eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Elder Care Associates and VITAS Hospice Care for the loving care given over his last years. Calling hours will be Thursday 10/4/2018 at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be in St Luke’s Episcopal Church, 915 Main St., South Glastonbury CT Friday, 10/5/2018 at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in Old Church Cemetery, Glastonbury.
