Obituary of Lorna Edythe Hastings

Lorna E. Hastings, 84, of East Hartford, a former resident of Oak St, Glastonbury, died on January 7. She passed peacefully and comfortably, as her daughter, Jo-Ann, helped guide her to the other side. Born September 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Kenneth Hastings & Hazel Talcott.

Lorna grew up in East Hartford and graduated East Hartford High School in 1952. She went on to attend secretarial school at Katharine Gibbs in Rhode Island. One of her first jobs was at American Standard. She went to work for the family real estate business, several travel agencies, where she went on & enjoyed many FAM trips and eventually retired as a legal secretary from Kane, Hartley & Katz in Glastonbury, CT.

Lorna cared deeply not only for her four children, Linda (Zesut) & Gary Glarner, of Maryville, TN, Richard & Emi Zesut, of Maryville, TN, James & Robin Zesut, of Maryville, TN, and Jo-Ann (Zesut) & Stephen Clinton, of Glastonbury, CT,  but also her life long friends Karen Lane, of Hudson, FL and Sue Carter, of Manchester, CT. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren: Travers Glarner, of Kingsport, TN, Emily Clinton, of Denver, CO,  Heather Clinton, of Glastonbury, CT, Shun Zesut, of Maryville, TN, Sara Clinton, of Glastonbury, CT  & Yuna Zesut, of Maryville, TN. She was also extremely proud of the fact that her mother was a Talcott, the founding family of Talcottville, CT.

Lorna lived simply for her family, as they were what mattered most to her. She asked for nothing and was thrilled with whatever she received. She always wore a beautiful smile and if ever asked how she was feeling, she would always respond with “I’m fine. I feel great!” This was true until she could no longer say those words. She had a wonderful sense of humor which she carried with her to the very end as well.  She was an incredibly strong and brave woman until her very last breath.

Besides her children, friends and grandchildren, she leaves behind her brothers Whitney Hastings, of Maryville, TN & Frank Hastings, also of Maryville, TN. Her nieces Corrine (Hastings) & Fran Piorek, of Tolland, CT & Lori (Hastings)Long, of East Windsor, CT. Her Nephew Steven & Janet Hastings, of Maryville, TN. She also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held January 18th, at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury, CT. The family will receive guests starting at 11:00a.m., followed by a brief ceremony beginning at 12:00 noon. A private burial is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name, to The Residential Council Fund at Riverside Rehabilitation Center, 745 Main St, East Hartford, CT 06108. The staff who cared for her deserve the deepest of gratitude for taking such good care of her. They made her last days as comfortable and as dignified as possible.
