Obituary of Alice C. Taylor

Alice Chase Taylor, 99, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2019, with family by her side, at Covenant Living in Cromwell, CT.  She was the widow of George B. Taylor, Jr.  Alice was born in New Britain, CT, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Chase.  She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Judd.

She leaves her four children George, III, and his wife Viola, of Marion, MA, Carlton and his wife Carol, of New Hartford, CT, Dorothy (Langager), and her husband James, of Duluth, MN, and David and his wife Jane Hawken, of Glastonbury, CT.  She also leaves eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Alice grew up in New Britain, CT, and lived in Berlin, CT, Worcester, MA, and most recently Cromwell, CT.  She was a graduate of Colby Junior College and Mount Holyoke College.  As a mother at home with four children, she was always busy, but still finding time for tennis, bridge, church, and volunteering opportunities.  Favorite family activities included vacations in Maine, tennis matches, and fun both in summer and winter on Indian Lake, in the back yard.  As a young widow, she continued to stay active, and with an empty nest she was able to explore the world, joining with friends to explore China, Europe, Australia, the South Pacific, and many places in between.  Her community activities continued, including time as president of the Memorial Foundation for the Blind in Worcester.

A memorial service to celebrate Alice's life will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 at the First Church of Christ, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury, CT.  A reception will follow.  Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 554 Main St., Portland, CT 06480, the Covenant Living Benevolent Fund, 52 Missionary Rd., Cromwell, CT 06416, the fund for Episcopal Relief and Development, P.O.
