Obituary of John Joseph Roncaioli, III

John Joseph Roncaioli, III, 69, passed away December 25th, Christmas morning. He was surrounded by family and close friends at home in Portland, Connecticut after a courageous battle with a longtime illness. John was born June 3, 1950 to John (Jr.) and Lorraine (Burns) Roncaioli in Hartford, Connecticut, as the oldest of three children. He graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1968. John was raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut after his family moved from the north end of Hartford in 1956. After high school he went to bootcamp and then joined the Air National Guard where for the next 6 years he served as an Aircraft Refueler. In 1972 John graduated from the Police Academy and worked as an Auxiliary Trooper for both Troop K and Troop H till 1983. After retiring from the Troop, John began his career at Capital Pipe where he worked as a truck driver till 2000. Then, for the next 8 years John worked as an operator with DZ Excavating and since 2008 joined his family business R&J Paving till present. He was talented in many ways but was best known for his low-bed navigating and bulldozer expertise. John had an infectious smile that he greeted with everyone. Powered with the true talent of storytelling, he could bring you into any one of his many tales from the past. Whether while traveling down interstates, lounging in a beach chair, or sitting around a crowd for an infamous Bagna Cauda supper, John would entertain his listeners for hours. John also had a collection of various nick names that came to be from the adventures throughout his life. “Bone”, “JRock”, and “Safety” to name a few. John’s family and friends were his greatest treasures. He touched the lives of many and was loved by them all in return. Some of his best memories were his summers spent in Rhode Island at R.I.M.S. beach and his winters spent up north snowmobiling on the trails. He had a passion for basketball and spent many hours cheering on his favorite teams, especially, the Celtics & UCONN. He loved spending Friday nights around the garage with his buddies and many mornings standing in the ring with his daughter, Nicole, and their horse, Dixi Blue. John is predeceased by his beloved parents John & Lorraine, but is survived by his ex-wife, (but best friend), Kathleen (Carroll) Roncaioli; daughter, Nicole Roncaioli and son in law, Justin Dutton; brothers, Robert Roncaioli, his wife Marie, and their two sons, Robert and Matthew, and Matthew's fiancée Beth Sweeny; Mark Roncaioli, his wife, Karen, their son Craig, his fiancée Michelle, their two daughters, Lindsey and Shana, his step mother Phyllis Brown Roncaioli and too many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins to count. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 30 at 10am in SS. Isodore and Maria Parish at St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury Burial will follow at The Green Cemetery.
