Jerry, was a kind soul.. i would sometimes stop to chat and he would tell me his life stories.. when i would drive by and honk , he would always blow me kisses and be so excited it was me.. my grandchildren would always ask , is Santa out yet?? I was so sad to hear of his passing!! Jerry always brought a smile to my face.. he may gone but he will always remain in my heart!!

My father thinks he may have started Jerry’s car waving. Every day on his drive home from Daybreak Coffee, Dad would see Jerry walking or sitting on a bench on his way to the Glastonbury Coffee Shop. This went on for quite some time and one day Dad decided to wave and Jerry waved back, and the next day, and then ever after. They met one time when Jerry stopped into Daybreak. He has missed him and wondered frequently what happened to Jerry. Now, sadly, we know.

I was walking up Main Street yesterday when I saw a huge, red sign, “WE WILL MISS YOU JERRY. RIP”
I thought whoever that person was-they obviously left a big impact on people and a big void in their lives with their passing.
I later learned that “Jerry” was the happy guy that I hadn’t seen in a while; the guy that would never fail to wave and smile each time I walked by him at different spots on Main Street.
He never failed to brighten my day and chase away any negative feelings I may have felt before seeing him.
Several times I asked him if I could take a photo of him waving so I could send it to my boyfriend who always waved and honked at him from his truck.
I wish I still had one of those pictures to share!
Still, my boyfriend and I will always remember the happiness and joy he shared with us and countless others.
We will miss you Jerry!
(I just tried to add hearts and waving emoji‘s but they are not supported:(

Jerry, I had the pro eleven of meeting you before your passing. You told me your strength was friendship; and reading your obituary and the messages here are proof. Rest well.

I’d often see Jerry walking or sitting on Main st. as I was driving by with my 2 little girls. We’d wave and he simply put a smile on our faces. My girls would excitedly look for him. So sorry for your loss and his passing is a true loss for Glastonbury.

Jerry was one of the purist souls I ever met. I frequently drove my daughters to Glastonbury high school, and there he was on the Green, filled with the joy of life, smiling and waving! My youngest daughter Lily insisted we get Santa a Dunkin Donuts gift card. I wish I had gotten him a lot more, for all the happiness he shared. Sorry I didn't hear of this until today, but I will stand by his graveside soon, and through my smiles, water it with tears. God bless you, and speed you home

Jerry’s smile, wave to a passerby and warm hearted nature will be missed the most by those of us who got to know him from our travels along on Main Street. He was always quick to engage our 8&4 year old daughter’s in conversation and they loved seeing Santa Jerry. When driving in the car, we’d either toot our horn or wave when we saw him and he’d always wave back. Fondly, The Wrona’s

Saw the smiley balloons on the benches and immediately knew who it was for. I've seen Jerry many times, but had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time 2 years ago. We talked about life, he talked about his family. He was so full of life and so kind. I'll miss driving by and seeing his big smile and friendly wave. Our hearts are heavy. Such a wonderful man with a great and positive attitude.

Our walks on Glastonbury's Main and Hubbard streets will never be the same. During our walk this morning we saw the memorials on the benches, and knew that Jerry was gone. We always stopped to talk with Jerry. He was always cheerful and upbeat. We will certainly miss seeing him dressed as Santa at Christmastime. Rest in peace, our friend, and may God bless.

My friend and I walk Main Street three times a week and a highlight was stopping to visit with Gerry on our walks. Many times during our conversations we would be interrupted by people honking and waving to him. He was a fixture in our town and will surely be missed.

Awwwwww sweet Jerry! We were so sad to see the balloons on the bench and we immediately knew what they were for! What a sweet and friendly soul, just a big fuzzy teddy bear. We can’t tell you how many times we enjoyed seeing him with his arms and legs up in the air....smiling, laughing and waving…. he was really such a pleasure! He definitely left a big stamp on our hearts with all of the kindness he shared. We need a lot more Jerry's in the world! Sending lots of love, hugs and most of all waves your way! The Garland Family

What a sad day to hear of the passing of our friend, Jerry. He never had a harsh word to say about anybody & always a friendly wave & a smile to everybody. Losing Jerry is like losing one of the many great old trees that line Main St., tall, strong, stoic & graceful: We don't know how much we miss them & how much a part of our lives they are until they are gone. It won't be the same without you, Jerry. We love & miss you. Rest in peace brother, from your friends Bob, Anne & especially Sally XO...

I arrived in Glastonbury seven years ago and met Jerry on my first walk along main street with my wife. From that first walk on, we met Jerry numerous times and each time it resulted in a friendly conversation. He was always friendly and never complained. When we didn't see Jerry on our walks, we were somewhat disappointed but later driving down main street there he was and I would blow my horn and received that smile and wave we all learned to love. May we all remember Jerry by treating each other with a smile and a wave, He knew it was the little things in life that make a difference. May he RIP. Tom & Susan Bailey

Jerry and I were on the same morning schedule...I'd be walking my dog before heading to work and he'd be heading off to breakfast. Some days it was a quick hello, other times it was story time! I've missed seeing him about. May he rest in peace.

I never met Jerry... never knew his name was even Jerry. But as I was scrolling on Facebook today, I saw a link to his obituary and it had the picture. And I said to myself, “I have seen that man!” After reading through the obituary, now I know how I “knew” him. I live and work in Glastonbury and would often see Jerry on my drive down Main Street. He waved to me hundreds of times and each time he did, he restored my faith in humanity. Just a friendly soul spreading good cheer. He will be missed by his close family and friends I’m sure, but even by those of us who only got a wave. May his ability to brighten someone’s day in the simplest of ways be carried forth by all of us.

Gramps, I don’t think you realize how many peoples lives you impacted on such a beautiful way. I love that you lived in the moment, made everyone smile & laugh, and loved food more than anyone I’ve ever known. I miss you already but I have learned so many great things to teach my boys and will live on forever. Your legacy will continue in the family I promise you that. This isn’t goodbye it’s see you on the other side. I love you very much! Your loving granddaughter, Alora Desrosiers
