May 19, 2020 My friend Gus has left an unforeseen hole in many lives. He was my friend, not only at work but also outside of the tool room . After I retired; Gus, David and I would meet on Saturday mornings and enjoy a “ catch up “ over breakfast. I will miss him at these impromptu meetings. Gus was that talented tool maker that could make anything that management requested. He would create his jobs perfectly. Management never brought back it back to be reworked for correction. His loss to the tool room leaves big shoes to fill . While Gus will be greatly missed; not only by his family, Jacob’s tool room, but also his friends outside of work . I will miss my friend, Gus . May your star burn bright in the heavens. Dan Surdel

Gustavo was a very kind and special person. I had the privilege of meeting him and his amazing wife and children many years ago here in Florida. And fortunately, they stayed in my life since then. There are not many people on this planet like him and Joanna. So, I was very saddened to hear of his death from Covid-19. Especially because he fought so hard with Cancer. He will be missed by his family and many others. May he rest in peace and may his family be at peace with their faith and knowing that so many people care about them. We met Gustavo and his lovely family many years ago. They entered as acquaintance and became part of the family. We admire his work ethics and love for his family. At this time we are lost for words. His loss affected not only his family but all those friends that love them. Our deepest condolences and our prayers for Joanna the girls and his family. He rest now but someday we will see him again. Gus was a great friend and co-worker. He started work at Jacobs one month before me in October 1987. As a toolmaker he produced more fixtures and prototypes than anyone else. He was a natural at machining and most engineers knew if a complex job was needed quickly he could get the job done. A faithful employee who didn't miss time and often worked seven days many years in the job he enjoyed. The only thing that slowed him down were the several illnesses in the last years of his life. Dan Surdel and I visited him several times at home and when he was hospitalized. We also enjoyed taking Gus out to breakfast on Saturday mornings and spending a couple hours with him. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those of us who befriended him at Jacobs. He truly contributed greatly to the success of Jacobs Vehicle. David

I did not work closely with Gus but there are few people at Jacobs who are held in such high regard as he was. Engineers, Union, and Management were united in their appreciation of Gus, and I can't tell you how many stories I've heard over the past couple weeks of "Gus helped me with.." or "Gus was a mentor to me.." It's also beautiful to read and understand more about his life outside of Jacobs as a husband and father. Our hearts go out to you and your family and friends.
