I am devastated to hear about John.
Our families moved to and left Stamford at the same time and the Huempfner's lived on the block behind our house. I rode the train to the city with Suzanne for 10 years! John was an amazing person. He was most importantly a great father and husband. His family was the most important piece of his life by far.
I have many fond memories of John and the last time I saw him in person sums up my relationship with him. I had started my new job in Rochester and was coming back to Stamford to see my family on weekends. My sons bedroom had a very slanted floor which we covered up with his bed. My wife was very nervous that the buyers were not going to be happy when they saw the empty room and how slanted the floor was. I asked John if he would be able to give me a hand making a new molding to put along the wall to minimize view of the slant in the floor. In typical John fashion he explained that he was extremely busy that weekend but that he could come over at 7pm on Saturday. It was a snowy Saturday night in March and I'm sure the last thing he wanted to do was come to my house and help me with a project, but sure enough at 7pm on the dot he was there. He brought Sean over and he and my son Jack hung out together while John and I had a few beers and fixed the molding. It looked great and my wife was relieved.
John and I had some good time together. We coached hockey together, helped each other with various projects around our houses and always a enjoyed cold beer. The most fun that we had was putting up his backyard rink and watching our boys skate under the stars on cold winder nights.
John you are missed.
Your friend Chris Weber

John was indeed kind, even keeled and intellectually sharp. An asset to any team. A good friend.

John was part of our extended family or friends. Big brother to our dear friend Brian, we shared many celebrations together. We were also fortunate to live in the same neighbourhood as John, Suzanne and the boys in Stamford, CT and were impressed by John’s craftsmanship on many house projects. We could have never imagined the pain he experienced and our hearts break for him and the entire family. We wish the family peace and strength and healing during this difficult time. We love you!

I met John on several occasions at the Janson’s get togethers. This is a large crowd of very close family and friends, but for me the standout person was John.
I never saw any man who was so warm and attentive
toward his sons in my life. I have three adult children who
were fortunate to have a wonderful father, Tom.
But I have to say that John was over the top.
My condolences to Suzie, Nick & Sean

In our religion when someone pass away we say “ May his memory be a blessing” and over the pain and shock of not having you among us right now we do have great memories and they are a blessing to us! You and the family were a staple at our Passover table. No snow nor rain not hills or steps( up) . were going to ruin Halloween if you were around . building the first ice rink in the winter pool in the summer at the old house the tree house and the little plastic house when our dog destroyed our bedroom door you showed up with a new one . The day my mom had the accident on 95 you were the first to show up at the scene ! We couldn’t thank you enough for that one , by the time arrived mommy said “ I was not scared John was here !” oh my ... we have tons more ... the electrical outage that lasted for a few days and we cramped at my brothers apartment in down town Stamford we and the kids had so much fun... and that is my friend who you were and that is how we are going to remember you because you are my friend a blessing!

Our dear friend. We will always love you. You are one of the kindest and gentlest souls we ever knew. Even though we hadn’t seen you in many years, we always cherished our memories of times we were with you and your family. Taking the kids for Halloween, Friday Night Pizza party, and so may many more. Here is a photo holding my daughter when she was born. He was a wonderful family man and a kind soul. He cherished Suzanne and the boys. He was the Gentle Giant.

Our Dear John . There are no words to describe our feelings on the passing of our beloved John. He was an integral part of our large family. We spent many wonderful days with him at the beach. At holiday time , he excelled as the carver of the turkey and was always the first to do all the dishes. He was our technical guru and our professional fixer.
He very quietly was able to fix and solve many of the problems we had in our home. He loved his boys Nick and Sean and was a great father. He spent many a day fixing toys, putting boats in the water, putting up tents, coaching games, and quietly listening. He was kind, caring and helpful. His gentle sensitive quiet ways will always be missed. Our hearts are broken .We will miss him, but his memory will live on in his sons Nick and Sean.
