Obituary of James Joseph Kopencey

James J Kopencey died peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2020, after a long illness.He was 73. James(Jim) was preceded in death by his parents, Anne T Kopencey and James J Kopencey,Sr. Jim was born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ. He graduated from St.Peter’s High School there. He attended Monmouth College and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Parsons College in Iowa. After a decade of teaching art in Franklin Township Pubic Schools, Jim made a career change to the Parking Industry. During his time in the Parking Industry, he became the Executive Director in New Brunswick, NJ, Wilmington, DE, and Hartford, CT, as well as serving as a consultant in private sector for Walker Parking and Desman Parking. During his career he accumulated honors, recognition, and held office in various professional organizations in the field. Jim was proud of maintaining his lifelong friendships, some going back to grade school days.He was a member of the Kappa Delta chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi at Monmouth College, and remained active in fraternity social events. He was proud of his Hungarian heritage. Jim had many interests, including camping, travel, and boating. A lifelong Democrat, Jim took satisfaction in having run several political campaigns. By far, Jim’s greatest source of pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. Jim leaves behind his wife and soulmate of 43 years, Cindy Kopencey, his daughter and her husband, Jessica and Mayur Shah, his son and his wife, Chris and Sarah Kopencey,and his grandchildren, Devin Shah, Marc Shah, and Chloe Kopencey. Due to current world conditions, a Memorial service will be planned for later in 2021. Burial arrangements will be private.
