He also volunteered for many years as a fire fighter with Company 4 in Glastonbury. He was a proud member of The First Team, The Moose Club and more. Bill enjoyed spending time with “the guys” at The Ponds and at his fishing camp in Maine. He left behind his son, Steven Haertel of Glastonbury, his daughter Heidi Rocha and her husband Joe of Salem, his grandchildren; Maggie Krawczyk, Alexa Haertel, Katelyn Haertel and Jaclyn Rocha. He also left behind his sister, Carlene Pawlowicz of GA, his niece Denise Woodham of AL, his nephew Jason Pontes of GA, and their families. He was pre-deceased by his former wife, Patricia (Riccio) Haertel. Despite their divorce, they proudly remained close friends. He also left behind his longtime special friend, Bethany Perkins. Funeral services and burial will be private. Friends can call on Sunday, January 3 from 2 to 4 PM at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue in Glastonbury.
