I was so terribly shocked and saddened to hear of Scott's fatal heart attack. We had recently put off a dinner and a phone call and I always thought we had plenty of time to re-schedule. Please let me know about any in-person memorial planning. I'd very much like to be there. my email is inara.deleon@gmail.com and cell is 914 643 0445.
It was great and poignant to see Tracey, Jill and Kurt, who I remember , of course, as Scott's beloved sidekicks and when they and we were so young.
Sending my deepest condolences,
Inara de Leon

I'm so saddened to hear of Scott's passing. He was one of the most fascinating men I've ever met in my lifetime - brilliant, but down to earth and fun as well. I've thought of giving him a call many times, as our paths haven't crossed in 3 or 4 years, but somehow got sidetracked and didn't. It's hard to believe I'll never speak to him again. My heart goes out to his entire family, and all of his friends, as they lost a great man much, much too soon.

I knew Scott in high school and as these things go in life had lost touch with him until we both wound up in a group of Staples HS classmates who graduated in 1969 that decided to get together periodically, first in real life, and over the past year on zoom.
I had the pleasure of really reconnecting with Scott at his home in Glastonbury for one of those get-togethers which he hosted a few years ago. I spent the night at his house drinking bourbon (mostly Makers) and talking about just about everything under the sun. Although certain of our attitudes were quite different, he was a person who in his flesh and bone was such a "mesnch" that it was impossible not to connect with him, talk with him, and feel a sense of brotherhood. We stayed in touch, on and off, through emails but I truly regret not having had the chance to spend more time with him. I have been holding a single cask bottle of Makers for over a year waiting to see him again after this pandemic ended and to have a chance to share it with him Maybe not appropriate given my heart attack and now his but I expect he would have appreciated it anyway. I will think of him when I am sipping it alone these coming evenings..

Scott was a terrific lawyer, of course, but he was an even better person. We met him first through Beth, and what a fortuitous meeting it was. He was the best of friends. It is impossible to believe that this vital life force is no longer with us in this life. We do and will continue to miss him, as will so many others whose lives he touched, but noone more than his extended families, to whom we give our most sincere condolence. He was a man to be proud of.

What a beautiful, intimate recollection of a loving, warm man. I knew him only as an "adversary," a term that misses what was most important about the contact I and so many other lawyers had with him. May his memory be a blessing

I was a law partner of Scott's when the firm was Sack, Spector & Barrett. We shared a lot of laughter and fun. Scott was a very bright and engaging man. He was also an excellent lawyer, and someone who always provided wise counsel when discussing a case. One of my favorite memories was when we had the firm over to our home in South Windsor for dinner. Scott and Beth were such a fun couple. My best to his family. A good man has passed to a better place.

As a new officer in 1981 I was assigned to Scott as my trainer at WHPD. He was patient, humble, intelligent, professional, and conveyed to me that our job had the ability to impact peoples lives for a very long time. He was magnificent in dealing with victims, suspects, arrestees, and your average citizen. He was always the consummate professional with a wry sense of humor. Later in my career he defended me in frivolous nuisance suits that all officers have to contend with and he did that in an admirable fashion as well. I tried to carry his wisdom & pride through my entire career and never forgot our time together. He was a true gentleman in every respect of the word and it was an honor for me to learn from the best. Rest in Peace Scott and to his family I would say he made you all very proud and he was proud of all of you. He made an indelible mark on my career and I am sad the world has lost such a generous and caring soul. Respectfully, Jack Casey (Captain-WHPD-Retired)

I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Scott when the state hired him to represent me and another trooper in a federal civil rights trial. He did a terrific job in what was his first ever trial and the jury ruled in our favor. After the trial Scott said that he wanted to keep some sort of momento from each trial he does and I gave him my black flashlight.
Scott was a true professional and I'll alway be grateful for his extreme legal competence. Please accept my sincere condolences for you loss.

So very sorry to hear about Scott. When I was a rookie @ West Hartford P D Scott made it a point to introduce himself and make me feel welcome. A great spirit.

Dear Karsten family,
I got a chance to reconnect with Scott recently around our 50th CFHS reunion--didn't attend but we all connected over email. Scott talked about coming west for a get together and of course a fly fishing trip for our friends. I knew Scott in Chagrin and then lucked out when we saw each other freshman year on the wrestling team, he as heavy weight, me at 142. I met his college girlfriend, forgetting her name, but Scott said they were still close when I texted with him this past year. The whole CT Karsten clan showed up in 1073 when I had a bad car accident on the Merritt Parkway in CT, at my hospital room in Greenwich. It was like a family of giants from fairy tales in my post op haze. They made a big impression, as did Scott over a long stretch of time. Hope he finds peace with his quick end, a big heart goodbye. Here's a picture from my favorite fishing spot off our family island (recently sold after 115 years)in Pointe au Baril, Ontario, Canada, for Scott the fisherman...
