Obituary of Louis A. Romeo, Sr.

Louis Romeo, Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away unexpectedly at Hartford Hospital on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.  Louis was the son of the late Carmine and Anna (Colacurcio) Romeo. He is survived by the love of his life and business partner Brenda of 60 wonderful years, his daughter Traci and her husband Christopher, his brother Orlando and his wife Iris, his sister Anna and her husband Ottavio, his daughter-in-law Helen, many nieces and nephews, and his two grandchildren Connor and Shannon,  who were the biggest pride and joy of his life.  He also leaves behind Kevin Shuler, who has been like a second son to him.  He is predeceased by his son Lou Romeo Jr, his best friend and biggest sports companion who we are certain has welcomed him with open arms into Heaven.  Lou grew up in Waterbury, CT with his brother and sister running around and enjoying his childhood in a small section of Waterbury called Brooklyn.  He lived near a mens clothing store and we are certain that is when his love of fashion started.   Lou worked as a meat cutter at Stop and Shop, where his introduction into the grocery business began.  It was here that he met many lifelong friends who share his love of the food industry, including Emile Papineau and Bob Fusco.  Throughout his career, his passion was to own his own business in the field.  He was a proud and talented businessman who was beyond blessed to own West Side MarketPlace in Rocky Hill for 40 years.  His “West Side family” and special customers meant the world to him.  In his later years, he took his food passion to the kitchen and developed a true love of cooking as well as gardening and was an avid NY Mets and NY Giants fan.  His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, Connor and Shannon, entertaining them and teaching them all of his silly antics. Lou was a proud family man, mentor to many and friend to all.  His absolute greatest asset, and there are MANY, is his incredible generosity to all and his kind and fun loving soul.  A true gentleman and class act for sure!!! A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10:00 am at Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish at St Paul Church, Glastonbury.  Burial will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Mass will be live streamed at http://yourstreamlive.com/events/1764384, password Z2H22H. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Immacare Inc in Hartford, a shelter that Lou supported for many years.
