I shared a caring friendship with Max for many years. We talked of politics, his travels in the Navy and our mutual time in Sweden. He shared familiar places and stories of his early life in Indiana. He loved his family and was very proud of Nicole, their two sons and grandchildren.
It's no secret, Max loved to drive. Wherever we went, he took the long way home.
He talked, I listened. Covid did not deter us from getting together, as we donned our masks and ventured on.
When I prepared a home-cooked meal, he made me feel like a good cook! I'm not.
He loved dessert; lemon, chocolate and of course, pecan pie. Most times we played a few games of Scrabble or Tri-Ominos.
My Friend Max was thoughtful and kind. He was a good man. I miss him.

Even though we were not related by blood I called my dad's friend Max Fentress 'Uncle Max'. My condolences to Eric and Brian and family for this difficult time. Uncle Max was a gentle giant with a fantastic sense of humor. I remember from my childhood when he tied my brother Andrew to a tree using nothing but his arms and legs, what a hoot!

My dear brother-in-law; you have now joined your lifetime love Nicole.
Many memorables moments we have enjoyed all together, in your company, as a family; to name a few;
-Your father-in-law, Ti-Loup, your accomplice, who loved to visit you every summer;
-Our children, Eric, Brian and Alex having fun at the lake;
-Our many interesting car rides and interesting visits; lots of fun and laughter.
I will never forget our family gatherings (Year 2000 in Montreal Laurentians),
Nicole's memoriam at l'Ile d'orléans, Quebec and our dad's memoriam, Nicole and I, at Chateau Bonne Entente in Quebec city.
Nicole often talked about having a wonderful life with you Max and shared same important values; securing a bright future for Eric and Brian; cherishing your grandchildren Emma and Claire; making sure the whole family was ok.
Our occasional calls updated us on the well-being of our kids and friends.
Rest in peace Max...Love, your sister-in-law Suzanne Bégin, Alex St.Croix & friends.

Max was my oldest and best friend starting at pre-high school in New Albany, Ind. Our friendship continued thru' colle during our Navy times and subsequent to both of our marriages. My wife, Irmela and I always enjoyed getting together with Max and Nicole whether it was in Connecticut or Maryland where we still reside.The four of us enjoyed watching each others' sons grow up Both Irmela and I loved Max and Nicole and we shall always miss them! Several weeks ago, Max gave me a phone call and we spoke together over an hour- for that I'm especially grateful !

My name is Matt Edwards and I became close to the Fentress family due to the friendship with Eric and Brian in attending Rose-Hulman together. I always enjoyed Max when he visited Indiana and Was fortunate enough to see the family several times in Connecticut through the years. Max had a great sense of humor and had an extensive technical knowledge about so many things. Max was somebody to respect, look up to, and model one’s life around. Honor and dedication to family, country and community comes to mind in describing Max and certainly this trait was passed on to his sons and will be a lasting legacy for all who knew him.

Max was as great of an all-around perosn as one could find, someone who I will always remember. From Cub Scouts all the way to times on the Frolic he went out of his way to make sure others were well and had a good time. As the Frolic captain his sailing knowledge was second to none and led to many enjoyable trips, lobster meals and memorable stories. He had an influence on so many others which tells how good of a person he truly was.

I will miss Max deeply. He has been a father to me since I first met him. As with all fathers - Granpa and I didn’t always see eye to eye! But we loved each other to the core! I will miss our Sunday dinners and summers on the deck amd patio that he and Eric built for us! A humble man, Max was the smartest man I knew!! His stories spanned generations (and many re-tellings). I love him for loving our daughters and his son! Through his example, he raised a phenomenal husband and father! He loved life! Over the past decade he found love and companionship with Anne! Oh how they adored each other and enjoyed so much together! I will cherish the memories of his sparkling eyes, great smile and gentle soul! Smooth sailing Captain!!
