Obituary of Zella D. Ferrando

Zella (Hall, Dutton) Ferrando, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday, May 29, 2021.  She was born August 18, 1934, in Boones Camp, Kentucky.  She moved to Maine in her childhood and attended Central Maine General Hospital where she was graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1954.  Soon after, she moved to Glastonbury where she married, raised her family and had a rewarding career in nursing, helping others with kindness and compassion. She received a commendation for not abandoning her patients during the 1961 Hartford Hospital fire.  Much of her career was spent at the Manchester Memorial Maternity Ward helping to bring new life into the world.  Later, she became the Director of Nursing at the Westfield Manor Nursing Home in Meriden, CT.  During her nursing career she met and married her beloved second husband, Reno Ferrando of Glastonbury and worked many years alongside him at Ferrando Orchards in Glastonbury.  Throughout her life she was kind generous to all, providing care and aid to anyone in need.  She was a member of the Glastonbury Grange, loved reading and quilting and was a fantastic cook.  Anyone who was blessed to receive one or her homemade pies will surely agree they will miss her incredible pie crust.  She has touched many lives, including family, friends and patients, sharing her good nature, love and dedication.  Zella is predeceased by first husband Henny Dutton, father Albert Hall, mother Grace (Branham) Siefert, brothers Albert and John Hall; and stepbrothers Earnest, Gary, Pete and Donald Hall.  She is survived by Reno Ferrando, her loving husband of 46 years; daughter Jenifer Bussa, son James Dutton and spouse Juanita (Mitchell) Dutton; grandchildren Jessica, and Justin Dutton & spouse Nicole (Roncaioli) Dutton; sisters Eileen Young of Kentucky, and Birdie and Delbert Johnson of Indiana; her brother Glen Branham of Ohio and Florida; stepbrothers Charles “Bub” and Phil Hall of Florida and North Carolina; and a host of cherished extended family members and friends.  All are welcome at a Mass of Christian burial commencing 11:00 AM Saturday June 5, 2021 at St. James Episcopal Church, 2584 Main Street; Glastonbury, CT, (masks are required) followed by the burial at Green Cemetery 99 Hubbard St. Glastonbury, CT.  In lieu of flowers donations are requested to be made in her name to the Glastonbury Rotary Club Scholarship Fund C/O Richard Cyphers, 1171 Neipsic Road, Glastonbury, CT 06033.
