Obituary of Ellen M. Webster
Ellen Margaret (Rubinate) Webster, 78, of Glastonbury and South Windsor, passed away peacefully June 3, 2021.
Ellen was predeceased by her brother, Frank Rubinate and her parents, Frank and Ellen Rubinate.
She leaves her daughter, Carole Saucier and husband Russ Saucier of Manchester; son Bill Webster and wife Denise Webster of Glastonbury; two grandsons, Cody and Christopher, also of Glastonbury; sister Mary Staley and husband Richard Rakoć of Spencer, MA; aunt Joan Bickard of Hicksville, NY; and numerous cousins. She also leaves many devoted friends, including Ellen and Dan Maglicic, Jan Donlon, Pam Peter-Cohen and Dee Keisch.
Ellen was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 22, 1943. She grew up in the Chicago area, settling in Park Forest, IL. She attended Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College near Terre Haute, IN, making many lifelong friends. She and her family then moved to Needham, MA where she completed her degree in Early Childhood Education at Boston University. She later received her master’s degree at Central Connecticut State University while working full time.
She moved to Glastonbury in 1968 with her then-husband, Alex Webster, where she was the best stay-at-home mom before going back to work as a substitute teacher in the Glastonbury Public School System. She then taught 3rd and 4th grades at Center School in East Hampton for many years until her retirement in 2008. She was a Campfire Girls leader for over a decade. In 1981, Ellen and Alex built a house on Martha's Vineyard. She and her family were lucky to be able spend many weeks and weekends there for over 40 years.
She spent her retirement having a wonderful time with friends and family. She enjoyed reading, walking, playing cards with friends and visiting and maintaining her house on Martha's Vineyard. She spent many winters in Boynton Beach, FL, having the best of times with friends that also overwintered there.
The family would like to thank their friends at The Harbor at The Village at Buckland Court in South Windsor for their fantastic care. Special thanks to Teddy Torres for his love and compassion.
