Obituary of Patrick Robert Tomany

On the morning of Monday, August 30, 2021, Patrick Robert Tomany was suddenly taken from his loving family and friends due to a pulmonary embolism (blood clot that went straight to his lungs) from a Protein C deficiency (a rare genetic disease). Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Patrick knew that he was a person that loved music, snowboarding, basketball and adventure and could always be counted on to help whenever someone needed it. He will always be remembered for his easy-going demeanor, humor, quick wit, and love of life.

Patrick was born on April 13, 2002, and lived in Glastonbury, Connecticut. He attended school in Glastonbury from pre-school until eighth grade. In 2020, he graduated from University High School of Science and Engineering in Hartford.

In his short 19 years, Patrick had a very full life. He went on numerous family vacations visiting at least 10 national parks, went on annual “mancations” with his father and brother fishing and boating the lakes of Maine and New Hampshire, and his life was full of endless “adventure days” with countless family and friends. After graduating high school, he decided to take a gap year due to COVID. He packed up his truck, drove cross country, slept on a platform in the back of the truck, cooked his own meals, and toured major cities until he got to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He made so many friends while he worked there as a proud “lifty”, a ski-lift operator, during the 2020-2021 winter season. Patrick was beyond excited to attend Penn State University and become part of the “We Are” family. In his short tenure there, he lived in Geary Hall and, as we hear it, was not only the life of the party but made everyone feel welcome and better for knowing him. He made friends wherever he went, in all periods of life and in whatever amount of time he was there.

Patrick will forever be missed immensely. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Robert J. Tomany and leaves behind his parents, Sean and Jodi Tomany of Glastonbury, his brother Matthew of Glastonbury, maternal grandmother Patty LeBrun of Windsor, paternal grandmother Joan Tomany of East Hartford, and maternal grandfather Raymond J. LeBrun of Southington. He also leaves his cousin Aiden Searle and aunt and uncle Karen and Trevor Searle of Rehoboth, Massachusetts and aunts Darcy LeBrun of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Stacey LeBrun of Charleston, South Carolina, close friend Lisa Richard of Windsor as well as a true tribe of close friends, family and relatives.

At the request of friends and family looking for a way to honor Patrick’s memory and celebrate his life, a GoFundMe page has been set up to sponsor a scholarship in his name.

Visitation will be at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 1 – 4 PM. Masks are required. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com.
