Obituary of John H. Burke

John (Jack) H. Burke, 79, of Glastonbury CT, beloved husband of Patricia (Newton) Burke for 57 years, died Thursday October 14, 2021 at home. Born February 8, 1942 in Hartford CT, the only child of the late John J. and Mary (Quigley) Burke, he had lived in Kings Park, NY for two decades, retiring in Glastonbury over the past 16+ years. Jack graduated from St. Michael’s College and had a long, successful career at Aetna as an insurance executive, ultimately retiring from Travelers Insurance. Jack and Pat loved to travel with family and friends, calling Cape Cod, Naples, FL, and Ireland some of their favorite destinations. Jack was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, and a voracious reader. In addition to his wife he is survived by his 5 children, Sheryl Adkins and her husband Douglas of South Glastonbury, CT, Brian Burke of Rock Hill, SC, John K. Burke and his wife Melissa of Kings Park, NY, Jeffrey Burke and his wife Susan of Northport, NY, and Bethany Burke and her partner Shannon Michael Windham of Redondo Beach, CA. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Brett, Quinten and Matthew Adkins; Stephanie Fernandez and her husband Justin, and their children Lucas and Harper; Michael, Joshua, Sarah, Rebekah and Karah Burke; Connor and Mackenzie Burke; Cory Cerussi and his wife Alexandra, Casey Burke and Hailey Almeida and her husband Nicholas. Jack’s family will hold a private celebration of life this Saturday, October 23, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.alz.org in honor of his wife Patricia.
