I only knew Kevin for about a year, but am incredibly grateful for our time together. It was instantly clear that Kevin and his family had something very special going on. The way Meg talked about and cared for him and the bond between him and Kate showed me what a truly loving family could be. Like something out of a movie.
As I joined more family events and spent time in Amston, Kevin was incredibly welcoming with a healthy dose of sarcastic degradation. I'll always cherish his subtle jabs. I was lucky enough for a couple boat rides with him on the lake. We blasted rolling stones and he towed me on a pool float. This was a gnarly use of the electric boat, Lola. He also let me do some light demolition to his house which gave me a sense of approval.
Again, I am grateful for my time with Kevin, his values that live on through his family, and his legendary sense of humor. I am lucky to have known him and for the chance to create more hilarious memories with Meg, Kate, Billy, Dennis and his favorite son, Ralphie.

I always wanted a friend by the name of Murphy. I don't know why. It's just such a friendly name. I always addressed Kevin as Murphy. So almost 50 years ago I had a new friend when I met Murphy. As the years went on he turned out to be much more than a friend. He was much more like a brother.
I'm thinking it would be wrong, almost selfish to focus on the sadness of his death. I feel it would be best to celebrate the completion of an explementary life.

Kate, Billy, Megan and Dennis,
My words are difficult to find, but my fond memories of Kevin come easily. So many of them, inclusive of this Mother's Day picture 2021. Although ill, Kevin still had a way of making everyone smile.
I am so saddened and sorry for your loss. He will be missed by many.

All of us at Chatham Borough, most specifically the Environmental Commission, will always remember Kevin for his kindness and tenacious dedication to our natural environment. We plan to plant a tree in his honor at Shepherd Kollack park this spring. He did wonderful things to make the park what it is and to establish and maintain the walking trails that so many enjoy using today.
We are sending our deepest condolences to the entire Murphy family.

I am thinking of your family during this difficult time. I know Kevin was a special person who was so open to all of the gifts of life. I am remembering Kate and Kevin learning to identify frog calls by species so they could help keep track of their local ecosystem's health. All of us in Book Club send our condolences.
