Obituary of Alice Baker
Alice Evelyn (Miller) Baker, 94, of Middletown, CT, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Portland Care and Rehabilitation Centre. She was the widow of Howard B. Baker and spent most of her life as a resident of Norton, MA. More recently, she had moved to live with her daughter, JoAnn A. Horton of CT.
Born in Taunton, MA on April, 4, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Ethel F. (Wills) Miller. Alice was a graduate of Norton High School, worked as Alice E. Baker Real Estate Broker for many years and was the founder of Alice’s Wonderland Antiques. She was a longtime, dedicated member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Norton, serving on numerous committees, in a variety of positions and as a Sunday School Teacher. She was active in town affairs, a familiar face at the election polls, and a member of the Norton Grange and active in the Norton Historical Society. She and Howard were Hospice volunteers for many years. Alice was a talented gardener, seamstress, and artist (tole painter-beautifully decorating her many antique tins, trays, wooden utensils and furniture).
Surviving are her son Christopher F. Baker of South Dennis, MA; her three daughters: JoAnn A. Horton and her husband Paul C. Horton M.D. of Middletown, CT; Linda L. Vollmerding of Laconia, NH and Dorothy E. Baker of Norton, MA; her grandchildren: Alyson Bohenko, Eric Ideman, Krista Kiley, Laura Youssef, Jessica Russo, Nathan and Simon Paff, Danny and Jill Webber, and Christopher John Baker; her eleven adoring great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and dear friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was predeceased by her grandson Reuben Paff and her sisters Dorothy Andrews, Marjorie Briggs, and Frances Connors.
A memorial celebration of Alice’s life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Trinitarian Congregational, 2 Pine St., Norton, MA. There are no calling hours.
