Amy Bishop I don’t know how to write this because my head and my heart cannot believe that you are gone. I know you’ve had a difficult battle with Leukemia, you are a fighter and you did everything you could. You were truly the best oldest cousin! You lead the way for the rest of us and always put us first, even when you were sick! You babysat us, went to our many sporting events, and always supported us! You were here for me when I first moved down to Florida and when I graduated college the first time. You’ve been there for me for the small moments and the big moments, like my baby shower. I wish you got to know Donovan more but I know you’ll be watching over all of us, like you always have! I love you! ❤️

My deepest sympathy, a beautiful soul gone way too soon. I remember Amy as a young child dancing in her grandma’s kitchen shedding joy and happiness to those she surrounded. Taking the spotlight and making her grandma proud. As me and auntie Robin watch and giggle. Many hearts will be broken with tears of sadness and grief. May her beautiful soul find peace in heaven with no more pain. My prayers go out to family and friends.

I met Amy when she was 21 and I started dating her father, Mike. Once we defined the type of relationship she and I would have, we were thick as thieves and have remained so, 18 years later.
Amy had a big personality and loved her family, especially the children in her life. Her smile was widest when spending time with kids and she made sure they were always engaged in fun activities. She enjoyed cooking for any occasion, from a backyard bbq to a full holiday feast, never showing up without at least five different dishes.
Amy loved the beach, camping and taking road trips. She lived on Coventry Lake where she fished, kayaked and jet skied. She cherished time spent at Point Judith, RI with her beloved Meme and made it a point to visit there this past summer despite her ongoing treatment.
Always up for a trip to the craft store, Amy often had a craft project or two in progress and loved giving ornate handmade gifts to her friends and family. She was the world’s slowest painter! Amy and I painted two dozen wooden skulls together and she finished maybe six in the same time it took me to paint the rest. She would get so sidetracked telling a story and laughing, she’d forget to paint!
Amy never took herself too seriously and was known for often mispronouncing common words, saying “vignabob” for vinegar and “savoy” for savory, both of which are now commonly used by her family. Amy also rarely got through a whole sentence without at least one “whatchamacallit.” She loved having a laugh, often at her own expense. Amy and her sister, Shannon, delighted at pulling pranks on their father as children. Once, after flinging Jell-o onto a popcorn ceiling, the girls tried removing it using a dirty broom, thus creating a bigger mess while the Jell-o remained affixed to the ceiling.
This year Amy received a diagnosis of leukemia. She immediately decided to fight it with everything she had, choosing, “I won’t back down” by Tom Petty as her theme
song. As time progressed, she shared deeply personal feelings with me about her journey. We cried in the car together when biological children were no longer an option. We traded cute short hair styles when she began losing her hair. I offered to shave my head with her. During our last day together, Thanksgiving, we were concocting plans to smuggle in bleach and hair dye to give her a pastel rainbow look.
Amy will be missed by all who knew her, on both sides of her family. She spoke with her father daily and he was her absolute rock during this past year, bringing her to every single appointment and patiently waiting in the car, never complaining when it took nine hours instead of two.
Amy’s dad and I are indebted to her team at Yale’s Smilow Cancer Center for their incredible care and compassion. We also ask that anyone reading this consider saving lives by donating blood to the American Red Cross as Amy relied on blood products throughout her treatment.
“Well, I know what's right
I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around,
But I'll stand my ground
And I won't back down.”
